Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Constantly Rebuffering

If disabling the ->Flac settings improves your playback then you have
problems in your Wifi network and the signal strength is probably too
weak or there is interference.

That seems to have got it working fairly reliably, thanks.

Now I have to figure out why Rhapsody is forever buffering and
sometimes just stops playing or dropping the player from the network.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Constantly Rebuffering

2009-09-15 Thread bpa

Don't bother with AlienBBC - stick with BBCiPlayer. Apple routers used
to have strange config issues with RealAudio and port 554 as it is a
variant of the RTSP protocol used by Apple themselves and I think their
routers used to get mixed up as it tries to manage the flow.

BBCiPlayer uses Flash/AAC which is sent over http and port 80 and all
i/o handling is done with SC. When using BBCiPlayer disable AAC->Flac.

Since lame seemed to improve things - you should run a network test and
check that you can get throughput of 1500kbps at 100% for at least 15
mins.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Constantly Rebuffering

I installed Lame and disabled FLAC. The choice for RSTP -> MP3 is
listed as 'mplayer.sh/lame'. It didn't seem to work until I restarted
my router (Apple TimeCapsule), then it seemed to work fine; I could play
different programs and switch programs without buffering.

Then I went away from it for an hour or so, and tried to play something
else. Once again, no sound even though the player indicates that
something is playing. Of course, once I reset my router, it started
playing again.

If you have same problem with both AlienBBC and BBCiPlayer which have
totally different sources of audio and different apps to transcode - it
probably means you could have a problem on your SC to player. Port
forwarding will have no effect.

If you use wireless - try disabling RTSP=>Flac and install lame so that
MP3 is used and see if it helps.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Constantly Rebuffering

2009-09-15 Thread lindburgh

Lately I've been having lots of trouble with AlienBBC and BBC iPlayer
again - constant rebuffering or no sound at all even though the
controller indicates that the program is playing. If I reset my router,
the programs start playing normally for a short while, but then the
problems start again.

It doesn't seem to matter what ports I open - it will play even without
any port forwarding, so long as the router is reset. But the sound
eventually stops and I have to reset again or just give up listening to
BBC programming.

It's a setting it should be remembered - the "default" text is just a

The other side effect of not using "Fast Start" is that FFW/REW will
also take 10-15 secs to start as FF/REW effectively stop and restart a
stream.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Constantly Rebuffering

2009-01-16 Thread bpa

Could be a timecapsule issue

AlienBBC uses RealAudio port 554 which is correct for RTSP

PC browsers and RealPlayerplaying BBC will use port 80 (i.e RTSP over
HTTP) if port 554 is blocked. It looks like there is some issue with
Timecapsule blocking port 554. This happened when Airport Express was
initially released as well - there was a fix so you need to check it
out.

See.

http://flowusers.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=143

Evoke radio (and all radio using receiva chipset) only use port 554 and
so can have same problem as AlienBBC.

This users seems to think port 7070 may be the issue.

No that's the GUI version of mplayer - you need to run the command line
version. It's confusing as they are the same name.

I'll try to find out where it is saved as I think it is down anohter
few levels. The AlienBBC application knows where to find it so I may
be able to work it out.

I don't think what you have used is the fullpath.

I am not an OSX owner or user but I believe if you select and drag
mplayer from your graphical file manager into the Terminal window - the
full path of mplayer will be put on the command line.
Then you will be able to add the remainder of the command "-v

OK - mplayer needs to have the path put in front of its name.

For example if mplayer is in /usr/local/bin then the test would be

/usr/local/bin/mplayer -v -bandwidth 1
rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk:554/radio4fmcoyopa/radio_4_fm_-_friday_1415.ra

However you will have to find the directory holding mplayer.

Your log indicates that either mplayer is not running or couldn't
connected to BBC.

To test mplayer try the following command in a Terminal window.

MPLAYER -V -BANDWIDTH 1
RTSP://RMV8.BBC.NET.UK:554/RADIO4FMCOYOPA/RADIO_4_FM_-_FRIDAY_1415.RA

If mplayer is not in a directory on the path you may get an error such

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Constantly Rebuffering

2009-01-15 Thread bpa

It is strange that AlienBBC was working and then stops.

Perhaps get a log to see what is happening.

1. Set player.source to INFO from WebUI Settings/Advanced/Loggin g and
click apply.
2. Note Time and try a BBC "listen Again" stream. Wait at least 1
minute
3. Open the server.log (See Settings/Information) and copy log entries
from noted time and add to a post.

That symptom usually means a problem with mplayer either not installed
properly.

What version of AlienBBC and SC are you using ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Constantly Rebuffering

2009-01-15 Thread lindburgh

I have four duet receivers that are all synchronized. The test shows
100% performance at 1500 kpbs.

I no longer get a rebuffering problem on any AlienBBC content.
Instead, it seems like the track is playing (time indicator shows time
passing), but I don't hear anything. That is the case for both listen
against and live streams.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Constantly Rebuffering

2009-01-15 Thread bpa

The sort of rebuffering is probably not due to BBC - in which case it is
CPU or Network and in your case the Network should be tested.

AlienBBC will use Flac by default between SC and player which needs
about 1500kbps throughput.

Are the all the players synced ?

Can you run the network test and determine what is the max rate which
can be sustained for at least 10 mins at 100%.
