Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.63 (windows frontend forss sc)

2008-04-18 Thread tommypeters

I have to check where on the DS207+ that is managed - I thought the
Synology philosophy was All open, since we're intended to be run
behind a firewall anyway...

I will check the client side as well. Usually the firewall prompts for
allow/disallow decisions on everything new, and I have set Moose as a
trusted application. But if Moose calls something else (a dll maybe)
which in another context has been blocked, then I won't notice...

Not really.. The jukebox is a work in progress, although progress
has been on hold for a while while I implement other features..

The intended idea is/was to allow moose to display just a selected
sub-set of your library.. A working but rather buggy implementation
exists in my debug builds, and needs a bit of work to be usable.
Trouble is keeping the sub-set up-to-date over rescans.

The thing is, the favourites system in SC7 is much more flexible than
it used to be, so I was going to implement a proper favourites browser.
This would probably be more use. For parties and other jukebox
situations, moose could be locked to only allow favourites to be played.

I guess ideally both features could co-exist - the jukebox for the library
and cover-chooser views and the favourites for its own view.. Although
offering a favourites filter to the cover-chooser and library windows might
be more sensible...

Any thoughts to making it work with Multi Library and/or Erland's other
excellent plugins?

I've used Multi Library to set up convenient browsing for my kids -- they
just see the subset of artists and albums they're interested in unless
they do a search. Lack of support for Multi Library is what's kept us from
trying Moose as a front end, as much as I love the interface.

are you running the latest version of SSODS? Some older versions used
port 9090 (which is used by CLI by default) for the webinterface which
was causing me similar problems. The latest version of SSODS uses
9099.

If you are running an older version and are happy with it you could
also change the CLI port to something different in the plugin settings.
This worked for me.

Thanks, I see it's changed in: 3.0beta8 (28.03.2008) - I possibly have

I wonder if SSODS has to be completely uninstalled before installation
of a new version...? If so, maybe better change the CLI port.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.63 (windows frontend forss sc)

2008-04-15 Thread tommypeters

Haven't been able to get contact between Moose and SqueezeCenter 7 yet,
maybe it's something obvious:

* I have SC7 running on a Synology DS207+, so thre's no firewall
running on that box.
* The CLI plugin is enabled, and SC is restarted after that.
* I have entered the correct IP number in Moose, also tried with the
server name (DS207Plus).
* I have Comodo Firewall installed on the laptop I'm running Moose on.
I have there defined Moose as a Trusted Application, meaning it could
do just about anything it wants.
* The correct path to the music library is given, but I have set that
Moose should take info from the database (since I want to use the
tags). But clicking on thelarge scan button gives the error message
that Moose couldn't get contact and suggesting checking ports,
firewall...

Any help on what to try?

Can I second that - haven't been using Moose long but it is great for
feedback on whats playing and controlling my SqueezeBox - not so great
on picking what you want to listen to in the first place though, the
library and server trees are no more useful than the SC browser
interface (love the cover art method of browsing though, although you
need to be able to pick tracks from here not just the whole album.)
Moose with a simple 'M' type MusicIp selection method would be
stunning!!

Can I also put in a vote for being able to hover over the Artist,
Album, Track etc fields displayed on the main 'whats playing' page
(does this look like a Sonos controller screen or is it just me? :-)
and click through to info pages so you could choose to play that entire
album say or go see a page of that artists albums you have in your
collection and play one of these. Not SC browser info page, your own
Moose ones please - they are much, much quicker and a lot prettier!
:-)

He you did a great job at this!

I have just one little thing.

Since Moose seems to be able to find album covers in Amazon, I was
wondering if it's maybe possible to save those looked up covers (for
the songs who doesn't already have a cover) in an extra folder so that
I can add these later to my cover directory on my SC server.

Would be the best, greatest feature ever ;-)
So please, please ... :-)))

Hi Blu3IcE,

You should be able to save the downloaded pictures already. If you
right-click over a cover the menu should have a save option which lets
you save the full downloaded image as a jpeg, or whatever.

Now, yes, I know what you're going to ask next, and yes an 'auto-save
all downloaded covers in a folder' option should be quite easy to add. I'll
see what I can do.. :-)

I could add context menus to the now playing window which open the
library window with the relevant artist/album selected. This would do what
you want i think ?

Im hoping to redesign the now playing info at some point to display more
info and make it all look a little less bare.. Need to get a new release out
first though - it's been a while..

Oops, sorry..

No, Moose doesnt offer any visualization. It would be a nice feature to add,
but currently it's technically quite tricky (but not impossible).

I guess the way to do it would be to add some hooks into squeezeslave
which gave feeback about the audio. A winamp visualisation host could
then be written and the user could display whatever winamp viz they
liked. For hardware squeezeboxes, squeezeslave would just need to be
synced.

A 3rd party visualiser might be a nice project for someone to work on ?
