It works properly when Playing Now is a static playlist, but when it is
a Dynamic Playlist, it adds the entire Playing Now list into the
selected playlist.

One suggestion I have for the plugin is to have the option to use
relative pathnames in the playlist file instead of absolute.

From memory (I'm not at home to see the code at the moment), I'm not doing
anything special - it should be the same as adding songs to a playlist using
SqueezeCenter. i.e. I think SC always stores absolute paths.

Hi Phil,

I installed this plug-in today, but I guess it is not compatible with
Dynamic Playlists? I was playing a Dynamic Playlist and I did add.hold.
It did invoke the Playlist Manager, and I named a new playlist to add
the song to, but it added the entire now playing list to the new
playlist. I managed to repeat this three times.

This way I could use the same playlist file on my MP3 player.

I love the playlist manager plugin and use it all of the time.

Today I upgraded to version 7.1 of Squeezcenter and the plugin is no

Are there any plans to release a 7.1 version compatible version?

It would be much appreciated. :-)

It is compatible; it's just that when I released the beta version, I configured
the install.xml file to indicate that it was compatible with the latest version
of SqueezeCenter that was available at that time.

You can open up the install.xml file in a file editor and change the maxVersion
to *, and then SC will allow it to run.

I've just released version 3.1 on my website. Direct link:

That's why I never wanted the settings links on the plugin page. It's imho
really there where we have a link too much. Settings should be kept in
Advanced/Player and nowhere else, because it's where they belong. But I
seem to be alone with my opinion :-).

No, I agree with that now I understand that a plugin settings link could be
either server or player related, especially seeing a plugin could have both
player and server settings.

The non-plugin pages (eg. logging, security, network) are advanced
settings, but the plugins server settings pages are not necessarily
Advanced. Why would a user think of looking in Advanced settings page
for MIS, and not Plugins, Basic, Players or Interface tab?

It _is_ in the player settings, because that's where it belongs. (If it's
not I'll have to fix it.)

Don't worry - it is in player settings. That was my point - someone wanting to
set up screen saver settings would think of looking either in Player settings,
plugin settings, or maybe interface, but not Advanced. Same is true for most
plugins - Advanced may look a bit scary!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Playlist Manager Plugin version 3.0 for SC7.0

2008-01-22 Thread Phil Meyer
I think there's a problem with the new default skin. My plugin does show a
Settings link on the Plugins settings tab (but not on the Advanced tab).

It does so if you have an optionsURL defined in install.xml.

I checked by install.xml file. I have:
  optionsURL/optionsURL

So I have a tag, but it's empty. The effect of this is that it appears within
the Plugins tab as a link to the plugin's Settings (but the link obviously
fails), but within Advanced settings the plugin is not listed as having any
settings page. So there is an inconsistency between the two places that you
can use to navigate to plugin settings.

BTW: it should be identical in Default and in any other skin, as they are
using the same template.
Classic, Fishbone and Handheld skins display settings links for all plugins
(even if there are no settings), whereas the Default skin only displays a
settings link if there are server settings.

Default skin lumps all of the plugins with settings under the Advanced tab,
so it looks fairly tidy. Other skins don't have an Advanced settings page -
the items appear as other settings tabs directly within server settings page
(or drop-down list in the case of fishbone).

Handheld looks particularly naff, because it displays all server settings tabs
and plugin settings tabs across the top of the settings page, which can be a
long list wrapping round over several lines (10 lines on my PDA).

I know you like the plugins settings to be duplicated under Advanced tab in the
Default skin, but perhaps other skins should not display direct links to plugin
settings (navigate to them via plugins settings tab only). Now plugins term
is back in fashion (rather than extras) that does seem to make sense.

 I checked by install.xml file. I have:
   optionsURL/optionsURL

Which means there's a defined value, thought it's empty. Doesn't make
sense to convert this into a link, I have to agree. If you remove the line
the link will be gone without a change on the server. Where does the
created link point at? The code does check whether there's an empty value
or not. Thus it should not display a link when an empty value is defined.
Did you file a bug report?

obviously fails), but within Advanced settings the plugin is not listed
as having any settings page. So there is an inconsistency between the
two places that you can use to navigate to plugin settings.

A plugin can register more than one settings page. It could eg. have a per
player settings page and a server wide settings page. The value
represented in install.xml (on the plugins page) should point to the page
which is considered the main settings page - it's up to the plugin author
to take this decision.

BTW: it should be identical in Default and in any other skin, as they
 are using the same template.
Classic, Fishbone and Handheld skins display settings links for all
plugins (even if there are no settings), whereas the Default skin only

Ok, my fault. While they use the same template for the page, they use
different block templates for the settings link. Will have to fix this.

I know you like the plugins settings to be duplicated under Advanced tab
in the Default skin, but perhaps other skins should not display direct
links to plugin settings (navigate to them via plugins settings tab
 only).

It's not that I like them to be there or not. I even removed the duplicate
links at one point, and was asked to put them back again. We either would
have to remove them from the plugins page or continue with duplicates for
the same reason I mentioned above: we also have per player settings. And
the user often doesn't care at all whether a feature is added by a plugin
or not. He wants a (almost) single point of configuration. That's the
advanced or player settings page. Otherwise he would have to go look at
the plugins - ooops, not there, let's try the advanced settings...

or not. Thus it should not display a link when an empty value is defined.
Did you file a bug report?

No. As it was my mistake when I created the plugin, I've just removed the line
from the file (until the point in time where I actually get round to figuring
out how to add a settings page to my plugin!).

We either would have to remove them from the plugins page or continue with
duplicates for
the same reason I mentioned above: we also have per player settings.

I didn't understand the issue with per-player settings, as I thought they only
appeared on the player settings page, and never affected what is displayed in
the plugins settings tabs - I thought that would only link to server settings
for the plugin if there were any.

But I see your point, as I now understand there can be player settings that the
plugin settings link can link to. I think it's that that causes the problems,
and why they have to be duplicated in Advanced (in case there is a plugin where
the plugin settings links to player prefs, but there could also be server prefs
too - don't think there are any of those, but suppose it could happen).

Things do tend to start going a bit wrong when you go to server settings
plugins settings that link to player settings. In other skins you select a
player, then hit player settings, and select the plugin player settings page.
However, using a player settings link from plugins settings page in Default
skin means you are navigating to a player settings page, and then selecting a
player.

Eg. in Fishbone skin, go to SqueezeCenter Settings Plugins Music
Information Screen, and it displays the MIS player settings. But just above
the MIS player settings, it still shows this as SqueezeCenter Settings, as that
is where you have come from. The player is selected on the other side of the
screen, so it is a bit confusing.

And the user often doesn't care at all whether a feature is added by a plugin
or not. He wants a (almost) single point of configuration. That's the
advanced or player settings page.
Otherwise he would have to go look at the plugins - ooops, not there, let's

I think the word Advanced doesn't help - it's really server settings (or
other settings that are not player settings and not standard SqueezeCenter
settings), but you don't want to use the word Server. The non-plugin pages
(eg. logging, security, network) are advanced settings, but the plugins server
settings pages are not necessarily Advanced. Why would a user think of
looking in Advanced settings page for MIS, and not Plugins, Basic, Players or
Interface tab? They would know that it was a plugin, as they would have
downloaded and installed it as a plugin, so that tab would be fairly high on
the list, but probably not Advanced? Especially people coming from 6.5, where
there never used to be an advanced tab.

But again, I do see the reasoning, as some plugins are built-in and enabled by
default, and users need not know the functionality is supplied as built-in
plugins.

Phil,

Just wanted to thank you for this plug in. For me, it makes managing
and creating playlists a breeze.

I have a Demo playlist which contains select tracks from various

The big benefit to me is the ability to listen to a single track before
I determine if I want to add it to a playlist.

Nice!

Thanks again,

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Playlist Manager Plugin version 3.0 for SC7.0

I have uploaded a new version of my plugin that works with SqueezeCenter 7.0.
This version will probably not work with SlimServer 6.5.

http://www.hergest.demon.co.uk/Music/slim/PlaylistManPlugin.htm

The plugin provides a quick way to add songs from the current playlist to
another playlist. Typically, I use this when I want to make a list of songs
that I have been playing that have incorrect tags, such that when I go back to
the server I can remember what tracks I need to correct in a tag editor.
