[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Crash using mplayer - can't use alienbbc

2006-08-27 Thread jschott

Brilliant!!!

I took your advice and downloaded an updated driver for wireless
networking from the Sony website, installed it, and now it's working
perfectly. The only downside is that I may be forced to listen to the
Archers...

Thanks very much for your advice and help

Jonathan

no i/o = no input or output.

The mplayer banner says it is version 1.0pre8 ?

Can you play an ordinary MP3 audio file with mplayer ?

Are you using Norton 2006 ?

If playing a file works then I think the problem lies with accessing
the network interface. The probable reason for a crash would be a
faulty driver - mplayer is asking the driver for some feature/setup and
it causes the driver to crash the system.

If the network driver is the cause then all I can suggest is to check
on the sony site for an update.

C:\Program
Files\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\mplayer.exe
--help

This does bring up the list of options; forgive my ignorance, but I
don't know if it started the mplayer (although I have got it to play an
mpeg on my computer); what do you mean by "no i/o"?

My setup is very standard - a sony vaio running windows xp usign an
intel processor.

Thanks for all your input...

Try the following

C:\Program
Files\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\mplayer.exe
--help

This should just start mplayer and print list of options - no i/o.

What processor is in your system ?
If it is a non Intel/AMD then a special build may be necessary.

I do get the first menu up i.e. a list of available bbc stations.
Whichever one I select leads to a crash.

The same also happens if independ from slimserver (and with it turned
off), I run:

"C:\Program
Files\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\mplayer.exe" -vc
null -vo null -cache 128 -af volume=0:sc,resample=44100:0:1 -playlist

The mplayer (NOT slimserver) test first displays a menu of station
before mplayer is even started - do you get this menu ?

Because the filename has a space in it you have to use quotes " around
the name (i.e. before first t of test and after t of .bat)

2006-08-27 Thread jschott

When I try the slimserver test via the dos prompt, a few lines of text
appear, and then before I get a chance to read the error report
produced, the pc restarts.

This occurs independently of whether slimserver is running or not; or
whether norton internet security is off.

Thanks for ongoing help

First make sure slimserver is stopped. What happens when you run the
mplayer standalone test ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Crash using mplayer - can't use alienbbc

2006-08-27 Thread jschott

I've redownloaded mplayer and got it to play mpegs from my computer
without problems.

It still crashes when I try to test the alien bbc connection, even with
firewall/anti-virus software off.

I've looked in the Windows event log, but all I can find is:

"Can't use an undefined value as a symbol reference at C:/Program
Files/SlimServer/server/Plugins/Alien/RTSP.pm line 84"

Any thoughts?

2006-08-26 Thread bpa

mplayer is an ordinary app does not have any special drivers - it just
takes input from network processes it and outputs to a port. This sort
of app should not crash XP.

If the mplayer file is not corrupted in some way then it is an
interaction with your system config. - what Firewall/Anti-virus
software have you installed ?

Since mplayer standalone test fails - I first suggest download a new
copy of install EXE file and reinstall. I would advise against using
other versions of mplayer as they are abuilt slightly differently and
we know the version in the AlienBBC install works fine for many users.
