Thanks for the reply: I already sorted it out. It had been working fine,
and lame is correctly installed, but when I upgraded to the latest
AlienBBC version (to support the current 6.5x) it stopped. Turned out
to be a permissions issue on the mplayer.sh file. I should check
permissions more often - it should probably be the first thing to try
in many cases!

I have a similar issue with the Linux version of SS. Attempting to
enable one of the RTSP options gives me:

File Format Conversions 21:

Setting was changed.
Required binary was not found: [mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo
null -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128 -af
volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao
pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3 $FILE$ | [lame] --silent -r -x -q
$QUALITY$ -b $BITRATE$ - - ...

mplayer.sh is in ~/local/slimserver/Bin ... should it be in
~/local/slimserver/Bin/i386-linux ??

(I'll mess with it and find out...)

/Bin should be fine.  The command line also requires lame.  Do you  
have that installed?

Check under server settings, there's an option called 'File Types' I think.
You need to enable the RTSP ones.

Thank you both. It's now working perfectly (and I'm very impressed -
especially the 'play again' capability). I'm really starting to wonder
when, after a years ownership of Squeezeboxen, they will stop
impressing me more and more with their capabilities and expandability.
