Apart from bpa's suggestion, it can't do any harm to increase the radio
station timeout - to 30 seconds or even more - even though it may not
help.

2007-01-19 Thread bpa

I think the problem has been identified but I'm not sure because your
response is unclear.

You should only need to stop and restart slimserver *ONCE* after system
startup or after waking up from sleep/standby (I presume Mac have a
sleep/standby mode).

If you have the DNS problem, then you should be able to use AlienBBC
fully without any other changes or stopping/restarting slimserver.

brilliant! thanks, although it seems to be a bit hit and miss (ie
sometimes finding the stream in time, sometimes not) it is working with
perseverance.
should I build in a time delay for the url to be recognised though (as
you suggested?) - if so - would you mind talking me through how to do
that?

You need to go into system preferences. Locate the Slimserver icon;
click on it. Click on the toggle button to turn off slimserver. Wait a
few seconds, and then toggle it again to restart.

Sorry, no, that's not restarting slimserver it's just closing and
opening a window to slimserver.

I don't have a Mac so I can't provide you with specific instructions
you need.

I hope a Mac user (such as Danco) following this thread can provide
the steps in detail.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: mac os problem

2007-01-18 Thread bpa

The radio station timeout is the time to wait for a station to respond
to a request. If this is what you meant by adding a delay then it not
applicable to this problem. I meant adding in a delay between system
start and slimserver start.

Your log shows that the request cannot be made because slimserver
cannot work out the IP address from the URL - this means Slimserver
thinks your DNS is not set up.

Now please answer this question - it is critical to answer just Yes,
No or Don't know how to do it.
*Without restarting or rebooting your Mac - have you stopped and
re-started (not re-install) slimserver and then checked if the problem
has gone away ?*

hi
do you mean 'radio station timeout'? that's set at 12 secs. If you
don't mean that can you give a guide to where i need t change
something?
also... tried un/re installing realplayer and un/re installing alienbbc
itself - still nothing changes.
did the paste of the debug file above shed any light?

Delays may not be the whole answer but first yiou need to confirm if
this is indeed the problem.

Without stopping or rebooting OSX, stop and restart slimserver and then
re-test AlienBBC

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: mac os problem

2007-01-17 Thread bpa

OK - the other part of the problem setup was that slimserver is
installed to start up when OSX starts up. If your slimserver is also
set to start when PSX starts - the following is what happens

1. OSX starts up and starts up networking
2. Slimserver starts and lookups up the DNS servers. Wireless
sometimes takes a while to get set up so DNS has not been set up when
Slimserver looks for DNS.
3. Wireless LAN setup completes and DNS works.
4. Slimserver runs but thinks DNS is not configured.

Test to check if this is your problem:
Stop and restart slimserver and retest AlienBBC

Solution if above "fixes the problem": Put in a delay before startup of
slimserver.

This problem seems to be with slimserver and not the mplayer.

A few months ago somebody else had a similar problem and it related to
the PC connected to internet router by wireless and the delay in
connecting to nameserver.

Is your mac connected to internet router by wireless ?

For diagnosis, you might want to see if you can play the streams on your
computer by going to the BBC page on your browser.

I was trying Lsten Again on a particular item several times over the
last couple of days. It came through ok on my computer today, but kept
failing yesterday.

Enable debug options d_source and d_plugins (Server Settings/ Debugging)
and open debug window - then select a BBC station.

Copy and post the log of the debug messages.

When you say Alien works with other station - does it work with other
RealAudio stations such as NPR ?
