[SlimDevices: Plugins] Replacement plugins for AlienBBC

2009-12-16 Thread bpa

It is planned to retire AlienBBC.

BBCiPlayer replaces AlienBBC in terms of providing access to and
playing BBC programs. AlienBBC had some functionality which BBCiPlayer
does not provide. The following plugins provides the missing
functionality

PlayReal - provide RealAudio support. Requires mplayer to be
installed. There is no menu associated with the plugin but enables play
URLs such as RTSP and RAM and SMIL playlists.
PlayWMA - provide Linux & OSX WMA support for players that cannot play
WMA natively such as SoftSqueeze, SqueezePlay and SB1. There is no menu
assoicated with this plugin. The plugin can also be used to play
stations which only support mms.
PHCplayer - makes it easy to play Prarie Home Companion latest show and
9 previous shows. PlayReal must be installed as well.
RTEplayer - makes it easy to play RTE programs and also podcasts.
PlayReal must be installed as well.

To install - add the following repository URL to the Plugins tab or if
using 7.3 the Extensions Downloader plugin, click apply and then select
the relevant plugins.

Both RTE and PHC need PlayReal installed.

You should uninstall AlienBBC before installing PlayReal. The mplayer
installation should not need to be changed.

On Windows PlayReal and PlayWMA will download mplayer if required but
on Linux ans OSX you still need to install mplayer separately.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Replacement plugins for AlienBBC

2010-01-02 Thread bpa

For x86 Linux based systems - users can add WMA lossless and WMA Pro
support on x86 Linux based SBS by installing a Windows library on their
Linux system. Installing a Windows library on a Linux may be illegal so
it is left to the user.

1. Install PlayWMA plugin
2. Install mplayer
3. Find a copy of wma9dmod.dll either on your Windows system or via
Google. Save it in the library defined by your mplayer build (on Ubuntu
it is /usr/lib/win32 or /usr/local/lib/win32). Make sure permissions and
ownership is correct.
4. replace the PlayWMA plugin custom-convert.conf by the attached file
making sure to rename it to custom-convert.conf
5. Restart SBS and test.

As the Windows library is a 32 bit x86 library, this method will not
work on non x86 system or possibly on 64 bit Linux kernel.

The conf file is setup to resample 48kHz file to 44.1kHz.

The version of mplayer used with SSOTS and SSODS is specific to the QNAP
player and you need a special build. Flipflip could be the best user to
answer this - ask the question on the SSODS 4.0 support thread.
