I was able to reproduce the high pitch noise on my win10 work laptop and on a linux build using portaudio and your test 8KHz mp3. I had another look at those ticks you hear. Maybe you hear them because they are below 11 kHz and I just hear them faintly because the beep is that damn loud. 27303 I don't think these ticks happen in squeezelite normally, but it's due to my lazy copy'n'paste work when I made the five second file. +---+ |Filename: 11kHz.png| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=27303| +---+ QLMS 7.9.2@2.04 x64 (digimaster) with perl 5.28 dedicated to me. :D / QNAP 469L QTS 4.3.4 dolodobendan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67663 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110444 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Thanks for the sample I can hear the "ticking" in that flac file. However, I don't experience it with my win7 or win10 laptops with either build. If you don't specify an output device when starting squeezelite-win will use the default defined in the control panel and the MME (Windows multimedia extension audio driver), which you almost always don't want to use unless you are sending remote audio to an RDP client. Please try 'the last 1.8.7-1086 version' (http://ralph-irving.users.sourceforge.net/files/squeezelite-1.8.7-1086-dll.zip). Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezelite for Windows: (loud) high pitch noise on pause
I still can't reproduce the noise on pause. To try and narrow down the cause I've built a 'squeezelite-win 1.9.1-1139 that uses the DLLs from the 1.8.4-737 release' (http://ralph-irving.users.sourceforge.net/files/squeezelite-1.9.1-1139-dll.zip). The ffmpeg DLLs are not included as they crash squeezelite when an alac or wma file is played. That's partially why I moved away from DLLS for the decoders. This should not matter as you only mention using flac and mp3. If you experience the high pitch noise on pause with this build then it's something that's changed in squeezelite. If you do NOT then it's something that's changed in portaudio. Even the Ctrl+Shift modifier that works from the Run-box (Win+R) doesn't work here. But if you really want it you can built it on your own: 1) In general, you can enter any program plus arguments in explorer's address bar and explorer will start it with the current path as the working directory. If you don't want to prefix the program name with the full path it must be located in a path mentioned in the PATH environment variable. 2) Pick a way to run an elevated command prompt according to answers from 'here' (https://stackoverflow.com/q/19098101). For example, if you enter Code: powershell.exe -Command "Start-Process cmd \"/k cd /d %cd%\" -Verb RunAs" in the explorer's address bar, it'll open a cmd prompt as admin in the current folder. 3) Now combine 1+2 and create a batch file for the command and put it in a path of the PATH variable or add it's path to the PATH variable. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110444 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

WASAPI works with "-a :1" added. "Default format" was set to "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)" which is the default option. I changed it now to "CD Quality". ralphy wrote: > Please use a command prompt for testing instead of power shell. Will do. Do the WASAPI devices work if you add -a :1 otherwise the control panel settings for the sound card must be 16bit 44100 for WASAPI devices to work in shared mode with squeezelite. Please use a command prompt for testing instead of power shell. Could you send me a link to the mp3 file you're using for this as well. Thank you for taking a look. ralphy wrote: > I haven't been able to reproduce this on my win7 or 10 systems. Maybe because nobody noticed it? I asked some friends if they see this low noise output, too. They do. But it's not audible (at least not with their or mine speakers). I'll send them a low quality mp3 to test it for this really loud and annoying beep. ralphy wrote: > With the player stopped, does the noise persist if you add -C 10 to the > squeezelite-win command line? > This forces squeezelite to close the device after nothing has been > playing for 10 seconds. I haven't been able to reproduce this on my win7 or 10 systems. What windows hostapi are you using? Direct Sound, MME, WASAPI etc 1.8.4 uses a much older version of the portaudio library. These days, I update to the latest version of portaudio as part of building a win32 release. I also checked on the portaudio mailing list and there have been no reports of such a problem. With the player stopped, does the noise persist if you add -C 10 to the squeezelite-win command line? This forces squeezelite to close the device after nothing has been playing for 10 seconds. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezelite for Windows: (loud) high pitch noise on pause
Moved from 'here' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?108550-Announce-Squeezelite-X=937861=1#post937861). On pause: mp3 (22.050kHz/64kbps) -> very loud noise mp3 (44.1kHz/320kbps) -> low noise, not audible (but visible in the sound mixer) FLAC (44.1kHz/16bit) -> low noise, not audible (but visible in the sound mixer) FLAC (96kHz/24bit) -> no noise That's what is happening with squeezelite-1.9.1-1139-win32. Squeezelite-1.8.4-737-win32 does not show this behavior. 27121 +---+ |Filename: squeezelite_1.png| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=27121| +---+ QLMS 7.9.2@2.04 x64 (digimaster) with perl 5.28 dedicated to me. :D / QNAP 469L QTS 4.3.4 dolodobendan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67663 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110444 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
