If you keep the file paths the same for both MusicIP and SBS then it
should be ok split across servers.

Example;
server1 (Running MIP) file path; z:\music or \\NAS\music
server2 (Running SBS) file path; z:\music or \\NAS\music

Then I dont see why it wouldnt work, never tried it myself though :)

whoa it's sensitive to file paths? hmmm that rings a bell. been a
couple of years since i've played with this :) could explain my
trouble

i'm messing around on how to do this on a separate server. Reason
being I run SBS on a solaris 10 x86 box (ZFS, RAID-Z, and a giant
archive of data). What I did a couple years back was run a Linux zone
virtually on the same server, and it worked out ok.

What i've been trying this time is running it on a Debian server on the
same network, mounting the music via NFS, and then doing an ssh
port-forward back from the solaris box. yes i know, seems like i'm
going out of my way to make it more difficult :) just experimenting.
I can go back to the linux zone method, it's just another thing to set
up.

What I'll probably end up doing in the longterm, is just make the
solaris box a giant NFS server for applications like SBS, and then
running stuff on Debian or something. Solaris had a good run but now
that Oracle owns it we'll see even less people in the opensource
community supporting it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MIP on a different IP

2011-04-10 Thread wactuary

Thank you. That was helpful information. With that, I spent a little
time editing the plug-in files to add back in the functionality. Not
working 100% yet, but I'm getting closer. I see now why it was
probably removed. If the file structure on the server machine doesn't
look exactly like the file structure on the squeezebox machine, then
there won't be a match and the MIP results won't make sense. This
issue would make it impossible to support for a general user audience.

Still working, but it might not be worth it...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MIP on a different IP

2011-03-31 Thread erland

It has been possible earlier, in 7.3 I think, but it was removed in
beginning of 2009 in svn revision 25526 for some reason, the comment in
the log just says remove legacy path matching code.

At the moment Slim/Plugin/MusicMagic/Plugin.pm and
Slim/Plugin/MusicMagic/Importer.pm is hardcoded to contact MusicIP at
localhost and the configured port.
