Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] alienbbc and an intel imac

2007-05-08 Thread danco

There's a very simple way to view hidden files, and you don't need to
worry about Terminal (or Googling for instructions).

Go to Folder in the Go menu of the Finder allows one to type in any
name, so just type /usr and you get to that folder and all its
subfolders.

There's no actual need for things to be in /usr/local/bin, but, if my
memory serves, I think the default installation of lame puts it there,
and mplayer should be in the same folder as lame.

The point about /usr/local/bin is first that it may not exist until you
create it, but some third-party applications create it when they are
installed, and it is useful to keep /usr/bin for just Apple's own items
- it helps to distinguish one from the other.

I am not an OSX user/owner - the following are the instructions from
Danco for a PPC version. When you are looking look for a folder with
"Intel" in the name.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] alienbbc and an intel imac

2007-05-08 Thread tday01

Once you get to the mplayer installation part of the alienBBC
installation for mac instructions, download the file that you are
pointed to. It is a compressed file, if you double click it it should
uncompress (stufitt expander works if it doesn't uncompress on your
mac). In the decompressed folder are two files, one is called
mplayer.

Do a google search on how to view hidden files in OSX (you will need to
type a command into terminal, which is in your utilities folder).

Find the folder described in the installation instructions
(user/local/bin?) which should also have the previously installed
"lame". Add mplayer to that folder. Make your invisible files
invisible again and restart the mac.

AlienBBC should now work.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] alienbbc and an intel imac

2007-05-08 Thread bpa

The note on the AlienBBC wesbite was specific to the Unofficial build of
mplayer on that website. At the time there was no official mplayerhq
1.0pre8 build for OSX which was necessary version for the live radio
streams. As a service to other OSX users the mplayer was hosted.

The mplayerhq site now have an up to date OSX build (1.0rc1) for both
Intel and PPC. To install mplayer from mplayerhq for use with
AlienBBC, the user needs to extract the command line mplayer
executable.

I followed the instructions and installed mplayer as described (after I
had worked out how to view hidden files). Alien BBC works fine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] alienbbc and an intel imac

2007-05-07 Thread tday01

I just went to load alienbbc on my mac and noticed the following warning
at stage 3 (MPlayer):
"These binaries are built on Mac OS X for the PPC platform. They will
not work on Intel-based Macs. "

Is there a work around for this?

Thanks

Tony

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] alienbbc and an intel imac

2007-05-07 Thread bpa

That message means the AlienBBC plugins hasn't been installed properly
or slimserver hasn't been restarted after a good installation.

Also make sure you have downloaded the correct AlienBBC for the version
of Slimserver. One of the AlienBBC webpages has a misleading link for
AlienBBC.

Do you have a AlienBBC menu item on the main web page ?
Are there RTSP entries in the Server Setting/Filetypes pages ?

It is possible - same as an normal Mac but it will not work if you have
a new Apple Airport Extreme.
