Although what I ask myself latelytoo,  is how  the "self-fulfilling
prophecy" is related to  "power-business-as-usual". Put another way:
What explains the observable  political hesitancy to look back at the
embarrassing point in time when the whole war was started, or how it was
started?

  The lobby has made it abundantly clear that it would love to use martial law 
to imprison and execute Carter, Brzezinski and every major figure in American 
politics who has opposed it or even gently questioned or disagreed with it 
about American foreign policy in the Mideast.  The level of hate-filled verbal 
abuse, for instance, that has been directed at Jimmy Carter in recent weeks in 
lobby media outlets has been simply incredible.
   
  So, all of this is clearly heading towards a huge explosion.  I suspect that 
when the dust clears, the lobby will regret having escalated matters to the 
level it has.  Somewhere along the line the lobby went over the edge, without 
noticing.  It's probably too late at this point for it to undue the damage it 
has done to itself and to the United States.  And if we attack Iran at the 
behest of Israel and the neocons -- oh boy.
   
  Efforts within the Jewish political establishment to change course, as 
described by Phil Weiss, are probably much too little, much too late.

 
  The main question in play: will the lobby manage to take down and destroy the 
United States along with it?  Quite possibly.  Certainly it will spare no 
effort to do so and it commands many powerful resources.  In George W. Bush and 
Dick Cheney it has found two perfect tools.
