HPLIP update?

2009-05-28 Thread Predrag Punosevac
I do not see anybody listed as port maintainer for HPLIP so that is why
I am sending this email to the list.

All our print ports are up to date except for HPLIP which is
2.7.12 even though the current stable release is 3.9.4b.
HPLIP does depend on sane-backends so bumping up port version
didn't make any sense until two weeks ago. However Antoine have
updated sane-backends to the latest release 1.20. It would be probably
a good idea if HPLIP gets bumped up at least once before the
November 1st release. Is anybody working on it?

Cheers,
Predrag

Yeah yeah... I guess it will be my job... but I don't have HP printer
anymore which makes it kind of hard to test.
I already started looking into it a couple months ago it but hplip is
very linux centrix and huge! It will take a lot of work to update.

Anyway, it is somewhere on my todo list.
Cheers!

I have an hp psc 1350 all-in-one which attaches as
ugen0 at uhub5 port 1 hp psc 1300 series rev 2.00/1.00 addr 2

To use this printer, I have hplip-2.7.12p2 at my OpenBSD-current system.
I remember that the setup was difficult. The printer attaches as both
ulpt and umass (probably the SD card slot in the printer), so I had to
disable both ulpt and umass to get ugen. I also had to run cups-enable,
run chown _cups /usr/{usb,ugen}*, and do the other usual steps.

I print through hp: backend (of cups) and ugen. I know that I can print
through usb: backend and ulpt (with hpijs), but I use ugen because it
allows to scan with hpaio backend (of sane).

I can print and scan with hplip-2.7.12p2, so I am not wanting a newer
version; but if I see a port for a newer version (of hplip) appear in
this mailing list, then I might test the port with my printer.
