Criminally Underappreciated Albums
Clem Snide - You Were a Diamond - It just came out a few months ago, its amazing, no one is even reviewing it. it was reviewed in No Depression by yours truly, july/august 1998 issue #16. i've seen a couple other reviews since then, but i'm also surprised it hasn't spun more people's heads around. elaine np: 44 Long *inside the horse's head*
Steve Earle and Del McCoury Band over America
-Local resident Iris Dement got the best crowd reaction of the night, both on her duet with Steve Earle "I'm Still In Love With You", and the Tom T. Hall cover (help me out here somebody?) she did. Del and Ronnie can sing with the best, but Iris killed. "I miss a lot of trains". i love the way she belts that song out on the tth record probably my favorite song on the album. elaine np: pete krebs/gossamer wings
Re: jerry curry vs. portland
i'd much rather be lurking, but can't let this one slide by. c'mon jerry.you are unable to find a single band or musician that meets your criteria in a town with a population of nearly 2 million people, especially in a town with a thriving and supportive music community such as portland? sorry, i don't buy it. it's the best place i've ever lived to watch bands develop and grow, and i'm proud to admit to being a fan of the music scene in portland. i love it here. elaine np: fernando *pacoima*
Re: nxnw
If you want a more locally oriented festival, try NXNW or NXNE. I've been to the former a few times. Unfortunately, I missed it this year, but it's cool they moved it to August when the weather is better in Portland that time of year. actually nxnw has been moved back to autumn again - september 29th-october 2nd - and will be headquartered at the new embassy suites hotel downtown. i can't remember what i paid for a wristband last year, but i think it was around $20. the deadline for bands to apply is sometime in april -- might want to check their website. elaine np: joe henry fuse
