Hi, Has anyone seen/heard the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recently? They gonna play a show here in Switzerland. I didn't knew that the band still exists and I am asking if it's worth to go to the show (I would have to travel because it's somewhere in the provinces). Thanks for your advice. Hans P.

RE: Dusty Springfield
Reply to: RE: Dusty Springfield Wednesday March 3 6:46 AM ET Singer Dusty Springfield Dies At 59 LONDON (Reuters) - Dusty Springfield, the 1960s British pop star famous for her husky voice and blonde beehive hairdo, has died at the age of 59, her agent said Wednesday. Springfield, who had fought a long battle against breast cancer, died Tuesday night at her home in Henley-on-Thames, west of London, agent Paul Fenn said. Her cancer had first been detected in 1994. Born Mary O'Brien in London, she teamed up in the early 1960s with her brother Tom to form the Springfields, which became one of the country's top pop and folk acts. Once described as Britain's finest white soul singer, Springfield's 1963 solo debut ``I Only Want To Be With You'' is now a pop classic. Worldwide success came in 1966, with ``You Don't Have To Say You Love Me,'' which sold a million copies to become her only British number one hit. In 1968, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she recorded ``Dusty In Memphis,'' regarded by some critics as one of the decade's finest albums. At the same time she released her classic single ``Son Of A Preacher Man.'' After disappearing from the charts, Springfield let slip in a 1975 newspaper interview a veiled admission that she was bisexual and moved to Los Angeles. She recorded little, preferring to spend time with tennis star Billie Jean King and campaign for animal rights. In the 1980s, she found renewed success when she teamed up with Britain's Pet Shop Boys, who persuaded her to duet with them on their hit single ``What Have I Done to Deserve This?.'' The group also wrote the theme song to ``Scandal,'' the film of one of Britain's most notorious political scandals of the 1960s, which also became a hit for Springfield. In May last year, Springfield announced a financial deal in Los Angeles under which she would get millions of dollars in exchange for future royalties from her hits. Just two months ago, Springfield was honored by Britain, being granted an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire). KATIEJOM wrote: Hi folks, along the lines of "see 'em while you still can" and "smoke 'em while you got 'em," very sad news this morningaccording to various radio reports, Dusty Springfield passed away at the age of 59 after battling breast cancer. -- Date: 1.3.1999 19:40 Uhr From: DelanoBoy THE BLUE CHIP RADIO REPORT News, Charts, Show Prep, Sales Info March 1, 1999 Bill Miller Editor Publisher The Blue Chip Radio Report is a free weekly newsletter for people in the radio and music industries. To add your name to our e-mailing list, or to remove your name, send your request to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks! The Blue Chip Song of the Week: "Stranger In My Mirror" by Randy Travis. Writers: Skip Ewing and Kim Williams. Producers: Randy Travis, Byron Gallimore and James Stroud. Label: Dreamworks Records. CDX volume 207. This one jumps out of the speakers. Clearly distinctive from the rest of the pack. Vince Gill was in David Foster's Malibu CA studio last Monday (2/22) with Barbra Streisand. In The (Nashville) Tennessean, Jay Orr reported that Gill recorded a duet with Streisand on a Richard Marx song with an undisclosed title. Word is that it will be on Streisand's next album. Mr. Streisand, James Brolin, is a big country music fan, apparently explaining the connection between Streisand and country music. Vince Gill may have drawn the biggest laugh of the Grammy awards show when he held his trophy his ear and said, "Somebody told me that if you listen real close, you can hear Garth Brooks play baseball.''Whoever was directing the shot selection for CBS must have been a country music fan (or extremely lucky for an inside laugh). The camera panned to Trisha Yearwood who looked as if she'd just swallowed a tablespoon of vinegar. Lots of country artists were wearing black at the Grammy Awards. Most, if not all, won't be around long enough to earn a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The original man in black, Johnny Cash, got his last week. June Carter Cash accepted the award for her husband. John R. was resting at the family home in Jamaica. Clint Black won a Grammy for his role in the "Tribute To Tradition" album. It was Clint's first win after 14 nominations. Patti Page also won her first Grammy Wednesday night. Vince Gill won his 12th in the past 10 years. Best quote by a winner goes to Ricky Scaggs, winner of Best Bluegrass Album, on why bluegrass continues to grow in audience size: "(Bluegrass) never had to make a fashion statement to be cool. Bill Monroe survived The Beatles. He survived Bob Dylan. He even survived Nashville." Welcome to our new subscribers, including Loretta Crawford with the morning show at WPOR 101.9 in Portland ME; Dugg Collins from KFDI in Wichita KS; songwriter John Bettis; Chuck Edwards with KSCS-fm in Dallas/Ft. Worth TX; and Hiromi Chida, Country DJ at FMK Radio in Kumamoto, Japan. Actor B.T. Stone played an investigative reporter on last night's episode of "The Practice" on ABC. Those of you in Tennessee and Kentucky will probably remember him as WIVK's Bob Thomas. Bob spent 20 years on-air at the Knoxville station before heading to Hollywood. Blue Chip Radio Report reader Terri Fricon, with The Fricon Entertainment Company in Nashville, has been busy lately. Terri was the music supervisor for "Too Rich: The Secret Life of Doris Duke", the mini-series starring Lauren Bacall and Richard Chamberlain which aired on CBS last week. Fricon also supervised the music for the recent Miramax release "Down In The Delta" starring Wesley Snipes and Alfie Woodard. Next up: "Fatal Error", a made for TBS movie starring Janie Turner, Robert Wagner, and Antonio Sabato, Jr., which will premiere on The Superstation March 28th. According to Country Weekly, John Michael Montgomery likes to listen to demo tapes in his pickup truck. "I want the song to touch me just like I was hearing it over the (radio) for the first time", says John Michael. By the way, John Michael Montgomery is the latest country singer who has let it be known that he'd like to be in the movies. The rumble is that VH1 wanted to play The Dixie Chicks' "Wide Open Spaces", but wanted to edit out the fiddle parts. The group refused. Guess the banjo didn't bother them. RE: Kuntree Goaks: Delete at will
Reply to: RE: Kuntree Goaks: Delete at will #1 is a Kinky Friedman song. #18 in german was a hit in GSA in the sixties. 19 22 are already recorded. A bunch have already been recorded, though without scanning the list again I'd say that a couple are lines from, not the titles, of Real Actual Songs. "I Wouldn't Take Her To A Dogfight" was a #33 in 1967 for Charlie Walker.

It's on the following LPs: - New Lost City Ramblers, Modern Times, Folways FTS 31028 (1968) (or on CD: New Lost City Ramblers, Volume II 1963-1973: Out Standing in Their Field, Smithdonian/Folkways 40040 (1993)) - Doye O'Dell, Folk Music in America, Vol. 6. Songs of Migration Immigration, Library of Congress LBC-06 (1978). John Patterson wrote: You know, "Dear Okie-if you see Arkie, tell him Tex has got a job for him out in Californy," etc. I think it was by Hank Thompson, but All Music Guide doesn't list it by him. Anybody know what album it's on? -jp
