does anyone out there know which of lowell fulson's 1967 hits, "tramp" or

written first? fulson cowrote "tramp." a pair of other writers get credit
for
"make a little love." help! bill f-w

'Tramp," was a chart hit for Lowell Fulson in January 1966
"Make A Little Love" was a chart hit for Lowell Fulson in April 1967
Evidently he recorded them both at the same session, but they were released
over a year apart.

Does anyone out there know who originally wrote and recorded "Wreck on
the Highway"? I understand it was credited to Acuff-Rose, but the original
author was someone else. What is the first known recording of this song?

Written by Dorsey Dixon, based on a true event, and recorded by the Dixon
Brothers in approx. 1936.

Guitarist MICKEY BAKER. The 74 year old musician is about to
receive a pioneer award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation
for his work as a sideman on hundreds of recordings of RB
and rock roll records from the 50's and 60's. He recorded
with Ray Charles, Dinah Washington, Screamin' Jay Hawkins,
Ruth Brown, and many more. The Awards banquet takes place in
L.A. February 25th. (The Rhythm and Blues Foundation is
 located in Washington D.C.)

I attended the awards show last night, and met Mickey Baker, and heard his
brief live performance during the show. He's kept up his chops amazingly well
for someone who has been quite ill for a long time. The award was presented by
Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart and Ray Benson.

Ralph Stanley last night

1999-02-21 Thread MKAldin

Saw Ralph Stanley the Clinch Mountain Boys last night at McCabe's in Santa
Monica, CA. The chance to see him in a small (110-seat) club was too good to
miss. His voice is as stunning as ever, and he still parts your hair with the
high notes. They did a ferocious second show, near the end of which Ralph
apologized for cutting it short by saying that he had just gotten a call that
his wife's brother had died and he was flying home the next morning. I don't
know whether any shows on the current tour will be cancelled; hope not! If
they play anywhere near you, this is so much the real thing i don't even have
to explain it (I hope). Btw the mercantile division is still going strong
despite Curly Ray's loss; they had RS and Stanley Bros. CDs and cassettes as
well as the same for just about each band member, two videos, four different
t-shirts, two bumperstickers, and a Ryman Aud. seat pad!

Wait, stop, halt, desist, come back. Are you guys *serious*? I thought
the first few posts were jokes. Is Garth Brooks *really* joining the Pod
People? Come on, surely they don't take celebrities seriously enough to
actually field them in a game that counts!! Let him sing the National Anthem,
sure. Throw out the opening day pitch, maybe. But play pro ball? Surely you
jest!
