The command returned nothing at all? Don't type the "#".

oops yeah I did...

You'll have a pretty hard time using postfix or anything else on *nix if
you're not familiar with the command shell.

Sounds like a load of hooie.

Perhaps if you follow the instructions here:
http://www.postfix.org/DEBUG_README.html#mail
and show us what the problem is, someone can give a better
answer than "reformat the server".

To answer your question, you can type the command
# postconf queue_directory
to see where postfix stores UNDELIVERED mail.

The "mailq" command will tell you if there is any undelivered
mail.

You can just copy everything there and restore it on a
different server.

Check the 'qshape' and 'mailq' commands.
Queued mail is usually stored inside /var/spool/postfix.

Postfix logs all connections and deliveries. When something
isn't working please report the error messages.

Per the welcome message you received when you joined the list:

TO REPORT A PROBLEM see:
http://www.postfix.org/DEBUG_README.html#mail

At a minimum, postfix version and output of postconf -n should be
provided...

While I'm not sure I completely understand what you are trying to
accomplish - ie, how your server was configured before and how it is
used - it sounds to me like you simply need to configure postfix to
relay all outbound mail through AT&T, as they are *properly* blocking
outbound port 25 for anything but from their server (this prevents any
of your PCs from participating in any of the botnets out there).

So, just set to whatever AT&T tells you to use for their outbound mail
server if you were setting up a mail client (Thunderbird, Outlook, etc)
- a quick google shows this might be:

relayhost = [smtp.att.yahoo.com]

> so anyways, something happened yesterday and now I cant get anything at

What does that mean? You can't RECEIVE mail either?

Are you hosting a domain for both inbound and outbound?

See what I mean? You need to proerly explain what you are trying to
accomplish...

Hi
talking about postfix server, it may do virtual delivery. Then you may
find the path to the mailboxes following the parameter

virtual_mailbox_base
in /etc/postix/main.cf

Hey all,
First post, if it makes it off the server...
Had a problem where I couldnt send nor receive mail, it happened all of
a sudden for me after I moved into my fathers house. I thought it could
be a dsl problem, as I came from cable. It happened to nbe first that
att.com was blocking my outgoing, on port 25, so support (dedicated) had
me edit some postfix conf's and add an alternate port of 2525.
so anyways, something happened yesterday and now I cant get anything at
all, support was asked again to look into it and they followed with they
couldnt get postfix working right, so they are saying I need to
reprovision the server. Now before I do that I want to try and recover
the email that is in queue, I myself have to firgure out how to do it,
but have spent practically all day trying to locate it, and after
countless searches, and 24 opened tabs, I need to ask for help.
I dont know my way around servers, so actual do this help might have to
be told. I can get to root thru ssh and thats how I found the postfix
directory, but viewing I cant.
anyhelp would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Gerry
