[postgis-users] OSGeo PostGIS flyer
Hello list, I am from OSGeo [1] and the german FOSSGIS e. V. [2]. In 3 weeks there will be a big fair - the INTERGEO [3] in Karlsruhe (Germany). On the INTERGEO there will be an OSGeo Park where all OSGeo Projects and incubation Projects will be present. We would like to present the PostGIS project too. We would like to make a flyer "in OSGeo style" [4]. The question is whether you already have PostGIS flyer that we could use? Is someone interested to review or even make this PostGIS OSGeo flyer? Would be nice to get a flyer ready for the fair. Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, Neuigkeiten und Hintergründe zu Technologien des Geo-Webs / GIS-Applikationen mit Freier Software und Freien Daten werden dieses Jahr auf der FOSSGIS 2012 präsentiert. Die FOSSGIS und deutschsprachige Open Street Map Konferenz 2012 – die größte deutschsprachige Anwenderkonferenz für Freie Geo-Informationssysteme und freie Geodaten – findet vom 20. bis 22. März 2012 an der Hochschule Anhalt in Dessau-Roßlau statt. Der Themenbogen spannt sich von der Datenaufbereitung in OpenStreetMap über Geodateninfrastrukturen bishin zu Technologien zur Prozessierung von umfangreichen Geodaten und spiegelt damit den Trend der steigenden Durchdringung des Internets mit Karten und Geodaten wider. In mehr als 60 Vorträgen für Einsteiger und Experten, Hands-On Workshops und Anwendertreffen erhalten die Besucher Einblick in aktuelle Anwendungsmöglichkeiten und Neuigkeiten von Softwareprojekten, die derartige Anwendungen ermöglichen. Über die gleichzeitig stattfindende Firmenausstellung ist ein direkter Kontakt zu Dienstleistern, die professionelle Unterstützung bieten, möglich. Zusätzlich zum fachlich orientieren Austausch in Community-Sessions und Entwicklertreffen findet ein Social-Event statt, um den Austausch aller Beteiligten - vom Benutzer über Entwickler und Mapper bis zum Entscheider - zu intensivieren, um gegenseitig von Ideen und Herausforderungen zu lernen. Die Konferenzgebühr beträgt für die gesamten drei Konferenztage 120,- €. [postgis-users] is there a function which checks the Right-Hand-Rule (RHR)?
Hello, I want to check whether my polygons follow the Right-Hand-Rule. Is there a function to do this? I found the function ST_ForceRHR [1] that will modify my polygons to follow the rule. But it would be nice to check first which polygons will be effected. [postgis-users] different results for area with different programms
Hello, I calculate the area of polygons and get different results with diffrent programms. Here is an example polygon: Select st_area(geometryfromtext( 'POLYGON (( 2569220.83 5630370.607, 2569215.357 5630374.968, 2569216.017 5630375.795, 2569216.19 5630376.01, 2569221.663 5630371.649, 2569220.83 5630370.607 ))',31466) ); These are the results that I get: * PostGIS: 9.337890625 (with "POSTGIS="1.5.1" GEOS="3.2.0-CAPI-1.6.0") * AutoCAD Map 2012: 9.3362 * Kanal++ [1]: 9.3361645 PostGIS gives back a slightly bigger area than the other programms. Looks like we should get a newer PostGIS and GEOS version. We are handling communal data in meters and want to calculate fees for rainwater run-off. As the area in PostGIS was always a bit bigger we should not worry ;) So, we were not really worried. We just noticed the difference. Martin, I think you are right. Paul mentioned that area calculation is done by PostGIS itself.
