A Stupid Question

2001-07-27 Thread Eric Schwarz

Hi,
I was just curious if this was ever done, or is even possible. Is there any
kind of artificial intelligence software for older PowerPCs or 040s?

Thanks,
Eric

That REALLY depends on what you mean by 'artificial intelligence'.

There are certainly neural net programs, I suspect ELIZA exists for
040's, but since there are no true AI programs in existence at _all_
right now, The answer is a qualified 'no'.

You might want to browse this site:

That is the Alife Database, a searchable repository of Artififcial Life
programs and such; AI is a subset of this.

Re: dead PRAM battery

2001-07-27 Thread Dan Knight

In response to Paul Vail posting this:

I'm sure half of the folks here can do the disassembly of the 145 and
the spot weld replacement of the soldered battery. For those who
choose not to or to whom time means more than learning how or saving
a few pennies, we are one of the professional options.

I quote from the list FAQ:

Do you have any policies about selling products or services on the list?

I've learned that some of the experts on any list gain their expertise
professionally. For instance, I was the information systems manager for
an 85 Mac network. For those who make a living selling equipment or
services, we have the following guidelines.

List members may mention the availability of commercial services or
products on the list, but no prices. (Individuals may list personal
equipment with prices.)

All correspondence regarding services or products should be conducted
privately, not on the list.

Neither the publisher nor the list mom makes any claim regarding services
or products offered by members of the list.

Re: Dead PRAM Battery

2001-07-27 Thread Tracy Keirns

Geez, what is going on this month? Seems that the flames get put out on one
list and start up again on another list. Did MacWorld leave everybody
grumpy? (just kidding)

I saw nothing wrong with Paul mentioning that they were ONE of the
professional options. For those people that are afraid to take apart a
computer, it is nice to know that there are other options. And I for one
would like to send my business to someone on this list rather than an
unknown business. (That's part of the reason I buy from the swap list
rather than e-Bay.) I think that since he didn't say For the bargain price
of $$ I will replace your battery at my place of business he wasn't
actually pushing for business. And he mentioned that many people on this
list could probably do the repair.

So come on everybody, relax, keep using Macs, keep posting to the lists, and
above all, Think Different!

I really wanted this to just not happen BUT since
you're posting commercials for your business, I have
to tell you I think you're way outta line. This is an
information list. If you want your business URL in
your sig that's fine. I don't think you should be
trolling for customers. It's distasteful. And sets an
 ugly precedent.
