You could try emailing yourself any small program and then collecting
your email with Eudora - probably the safest way to see for sure how it
handles Mac executables.

Re: e-mail

2001-09-30 Thread Rodney A. Hoiseth

I use Netscape as my default browser on my Wallstreet -- system 9.0.4.
Although I have a copy of IE on one of the partitions, I rarely if ever use it.

I once received an e-mail (via Eudora) with a web-page attachment
from a PC friend. Somehow, the e-mail searched out IE and auto-opened
the attachment in IE. It has only happened that one time.

So much for MS OS and applications controlling only PCs

Is there any way one could recognize a "mac anagram-generating" program such
as you wrote so as to avoid opening it? Is this a hazard with MS programs
such as OE only, or would this apply to any email client? I'm using OE now
but I used to use Eudora (which I really like better).

Hi Cliff:

I receive the digest version so this is probably well and truly answered
by now. However...

I travel a lot and I use Yahoo (find it less full of rules and hassle
than Hotmail) to access the mail on my POP servers back home. That is,
I do not need to change my e-mail address.(you can enter up to three
ISPs :-)

Sign up first of course.

Then when you have logged in, click on Options on LHS of screen and
then under Mail Management select "Check other POP mail".

Thanks, guys, the volume's all the way at top, and sound applications run

I use onebox.com, a free service with no ads, and can be set up to retrieve your
messages from your "regular" account by hitting the "Remote messages" option.
Free voicemail and fax, too. Very nice service. No news, no graphics, no crap.
Been around for several years, too.
(I use the pobox.com address which is a forwarding service, to check that all my
mail gets sent to both onebox.com and my crappy @home cable account, to check
that my mail is indeed getting through.)

Well, Mac.com is a far more dignified address than the others, and you'll be
staring at far fewer ads...

That said, check out www.mailandnews.com they have a web based interface that
will let you access your regular e-mail account...pretty slick!

They don't do too much advertising since the service is an ad for their
web-based email client.

(Worked, too: we bought it for the College, and the University eventually
bought it for the entire campus main e-mail service, some 50,000 users..it's
quite nice, IMO)
