Honestly, I've never successfully got a coax-based Ethernet to work, and I
tried really hard.

I finally tossed the coax-based AAIU connectors and got UTP-based AAUI
connectors.

To connect two peers, your need a crossover cable, something that seems not
to be part of the coax-based Ethernet concept.

I actually tried this one but when I unstuffed the .bin file Disk 2
was bad.

I did finally get the files from Harbourmaster's site but I had to go
to a friend's house and use his PPC as the download would not work on
any non-Mac or in fact on anything but Netscape for PPC.

I'm going to try installing the files tonight and see how they work.

Thanks to all that helped!

Oh behave! (PPC 540c & 7200/120)

2001-10-27 Thread Eric Schwarz

I'm trying to connect my PowerPC upgraded PowerBook 540c/100 (OS 8.1) to my
Power Mac 7200/120 (OS 8.6) through coax (10Base2) network cable using the
AAUI ports (transceivers, etc). The problem is, compared to the computer
the 7200 replaced (a Quadra 800), connecting to the 7200 from the PowerBook
is really really slow. Both computers have had fresh installs and
AppleShare has been updated to 3.8.3 on the PowerBook. I had no problems
with the cabling or transceivers when I used them with the Quadra and
PowerBook, so this leads me to believe it's the 7200 that's acting up. Does
it have something to do with the fact that the 7200 has dual ethernet ports
(10BaseT and AAUI) that share the same menu item in the AppleTalk control
panel (they're both seen as one)?

Please help because I'd like to get these two behaving together before the
weekend is over.

Thanks,
Eric

PB190 not booting up from fully charged battery

2001-10-27 Thread M Forrest

I have two fully charged batteries for my PB 190. While I can get my PB 190
to boot up while plugged in via the ac adapter, it refuses to boot up with
either battery. I have reconditioned and fully recharged both batteries,
still, no boot up. PB works fine otherwise.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
Morgan

First, lets get the silly question out of the way: Do you have Appletalk set
to the Ethernet port, or is it sitting on the modem/printer port like it
always does when Appletalk wants to drive you mad?

How is your network physically constructed? Have you tried a different jack?
Ethernet cable? Can you see the link light on the hub/switch light up when you
connect?

While it is possible that both cards are indeed bad, it depends on where you
plugged that other 1400 in...if it was the same place your original one was
plugged in, I'd suspect wiring, not the cards.

No, I still get the above error from either Netscrape or Internet
Exploder. I currently don't have my Mac hooked up to the internet so
I'm doing this on a Windows PC - maybe that's the problem.

Regardless I do need the files.

I did find another download location but when I unstuffed it the
install keeps telling me Disk 2 is no good. Since I'm on a 56k
sending me Disk 2 would be a good starting point. That's won't take
too much to download. Or you can try stuffing it and sending it to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] which may or may not accept such a large file.
That address I pick up when working on my friend's DSL.

I really do appreciate all the help!
