Re: USB?

2002-04-03 Thread Joseph C. Sis, JR.

I have the $15 version of the Compact Flash/PCMCIA adaptor from Radio Shack
(of all places) and it works great, both on my PB5300ce and the (dare I say
it) Compac PC laptop at work.

Plus you can use it as a startup disk on your 5300, which so far as I can
tell, eliminates from use as a Camera card unless you reformat it.

I would love to hear if anyone found a way to use the CF as a Mac volume AND
as a camera storage card interchangeably. Any takers out there?

Yes,
It does take a flash memory card. I'll look into the
PCMCIA adapter. Thanks for the advice.

I have a 5300c and use a PC Card adapter for either SmartMedia or
Compact Flash. There are adapters for the other formats as well.
All then known USB / PC Card adapters are Card Bus which isn't
supported on the 5300.

Afraid not. Does the camera take compact flash or any other flash memory
card? If so, simply buy a cheap PCMCIA adapter, slot in the card and
insert it into the PB. Mounts as a hard drive. Much faster than USB as
well.

PowerBook 540c not recognizing battery

2002-04-03 Thread Joost van de Griek

Hi, list...

I have this PowerBook 540c that I have had shelved for about a year or two,
and I recently decided to fire it up just to play around with it a bit.

Now, it runs just fine, but there is a slight problem: it won't recognise
its battery. Hardly a big problem; the battery wouldn't keep it running for
more than 20 minutes, anyway, but still. I've reset the power manager
according to Apple's instructions (TIL article #14449), run Intelligent
Battery Update, Lind's BU500, all to no avail.

I'd like to rebuild the battery with new NiMH cells, but I'm kinda worried
that the PowerBook wouldn't recognize the rebuilt battery, either.

So, does anyone have any tips as to getting this PowerBook to recognise its
battery?

Gotcha; and now that I rethink it, the entire quotation

Well, perhaps it requires the use of certain illegal psychotropic substances
to understand Hakim Bey, but the way I always looked at it, it's possible
for insanity to be subtle. If you listen to some pieces of music, they
appear straightforward at first, and it's only with repeated listenings that
the more mindtwisting elements come out.

If you listen to Pink Floyd, or haujobb or Nine Inch Nails, you'll know what
I mean. ;)
