Pismo PB/PC Card Mounting Problems

2002-10-16 Thread Thomas G. Tamura

Hi,

Just upgraded my Pismo PB to 9.2.2 and I can't seem to mount my CompactFlash
Card on the desktop. FYI, I did a clean install of 9.1, then upgraded to
9.2.1 and ran the 9.2.2 update. Do I need the original CD/Operating System?

Or what should I look for?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Thomas

Looks like not only did Matt Halter forget to unsubscribe when leaving
the list, but the cplx.net mail server is misconfigured and doesn't send
bounce messages to the reply to address.

Sigh.

I've unsubscribed this address. Problem solved.

Re: Linksys WPCII ver.3 802.11B on a 3400?

2002-10-16 Thread Andrew Kershaw

Yes, the _hub/switch_ part of a linksys router will pass AppleTalk
packets. Ethernet is ethernet, and anything that works via ethernet
will most likely work with any hub off the shelf.

However, Linksys routers DO NOT pass AppleTalk packets via 802.11b.
If you have AirPort (or any other 802.11b cards) and intend to use a
linksys router for home networking and sharing files via AppleTalk,
you will be sorely disappointed.

The same is not true of the Orinoco base stations (note that the
AirPort base station is basically re-branded Orinoco hardware).

That being said, TCP/IP works fine, so if you have OS 9 or an earlier
version of the OS with ShareWay IP (which is what Apple bought to
put FileSharing over TCP/IP into OS 9), you can do all your AppleTalk
stuff via TCP/IP with no problems (and a rather significant
performance boost at that).

Peace,
Drew

Re: Linksys WPCII ver.3 802.11B on a 3400?

2002-10-16 Thread archy

This topic has been argued several times on the lists, and it has even
gone through what one defines as support. I don't want to get into any
of that again. Out of the fray, this much is clear, Linksys does not
write Mac drivers for their products that require one. If you call them
for help and say you are a Mac user, they will make it clear they don't
support the Mac. The consumer routers, switches and hubs of today are
relatively simple pieces of hardware, and don't require OS specific
drivers. So it makes sense for your router to work, just don't call
Linksys (should you need their help) and mention you use a Mac.

Sorry about the clock issues, but I've been using webmail, so I'll have
to inform my isp about the problem.

Peter

190/5300 NIMH batteries will work (with a much shorter run time) in the 3400
instead of the LiOn battery. The LiOn batteries will not work in the 190 or
5300 however.

Disconnect the battery and the AC Adapter. Press the reset button on the
back of the 5300 in and HOLD it in for at least 30 seconds. Reconnect power
and press the reset button once to fire it up. Shut down normally and you
should be back up an running again.

While it is true that the WPC11 card (I have one) does not presently work with the
PowerBook 3400c (I have three), because there is not yet a Mac driver, I am not sure
about "Linksys absolutely refuses " I am writing this message in front of a
Linksys router connected to a cable modem. It not only works very well, plug-and-play
out of the box, with a G4 server, a PowerMac 9600, and the PowerBooks, but also passes
an AppleTalk packet for a LaserWriter 16/600 and even a Color StyleWriter 6500,
through a Farallon iPrint adapter. I have talked with several different Linksys
Tachnical Support folks at their toll-free number, about both Mac and Windows issues,
and found them to be knowledgeable and pleasant.

By the way, Peter may wish to check his Date & Time Control Panel or PRAM battery,
because his message showed a date of January 31, 2002.

Fabian

You are using a SCSI adapter which puts the powerbook in "SCSI disk mode".
It won't boot with that adapter on, it's meant to be hooked to a desktop
via SCSI and just used as a dumb drive when in that mode.

You will have to either use a different adapter that's just a SCSI adapter
not a hard disk mode adapter (or flip the switch on the one you have, if it
is switchable) or do something else, like put the 8.1 CD in a desktop
machine, and access it via appletalk from the powerbook (printer cable or
ethernet connecting the powerbook to the desktop).

PB 5300c and External CD-ROM

2002-10-16 Thread Eric Riedl

I'd like to reinstall OS 8.1 but can't get the PB to see the external
drive. I'm using a SCSI dock for the connection, but all I see the the
SCSI symbol (a floating square with the number 2 inside it). The drive
is a Yamaha; is there a generic extension for non-Apple drives?

Thanks,
E Riedl
