Don't use it anymore? You could try a cleaner disk to see if it's just
really dirty, but I suspect the drive is no good anymore, as it reads
it ok the first time.

Recently had an odd problem where an inserted Zip disk wouldn't mount
in a 1400 when awakened from sleep (I think it was; disk was inserted
before sleep and mounted, but not there when awakened). I understand
the 1400 scans its expansion bay upon awakening from sleep, which is
why it has to be put to sleep to swap modules; apparently it doesn't
use a third-party driver like the Iomega extension (which loaded
during startup) when it does the scan. I found the Iomega Guest app
(which comes as part of the Iomega software package) would mount the
disk. I put an alias of Iomega Guest in the Apple menu, and alerted
the client to the problem & solution.

Anyway, for stubborn Zip disks I've found that Iomega Guest often
solves the problem; it force-loads a driver and scans for a
drive/disk. (Of course it's also helpful for its intended use: to
mount a Zip disk on a Mac that doesn't have Iomega software
installed: just bring a floppy with Iomega Guest, connect a Zip
drive, startup the Mac, insert the floppy and run Guest.) Of course,
if you're using a Zip drive with your Mac, you should have the Iomega
extension in the Extensions folder, as the OS itself doesn't have a
driver to see a Zip disk.

I also use older Iomega installers/software with older OSes; newer
Iomega versions have a lot of extra, useless stuff.

Yes, it does, after I set it back and restart.

Nope. I checked it out. It saves data, pictures, whatever, just fine.

Is it possible the format is contaminated? Maybe I should reformat.

Happy Holydays,

It always shows what it's supposed to have the settings "After restart". The
Restart message remains, even after restarting several times. It refuses to
acknowledge the settings.

I bought it new and formatted it as a Mac volume. It still saves files with
no problems, so I believe the CF card is OK.

It was working at one time.

I think I will try reformatting. Nothing to lose. The format data could be
corrupted, eh?

Merry Christmas,

VST Format User's Guide anyone?

2002-12-24 Thread K
Advice appreciated:
I've just purchased a VST 1g expansion bay drive for my powerbook 3400. The
VST Format program came included on the drive. When I open the program I am
given the choice to initialise a drive; however, a SimpleText ReadMe says
to read the VST Format User's Manual for information and features. A
written manual wasn't included with the drive.
Since VST is no more, can anyone tell me where I might find the
instructions for using the VST Format software that came with this
expansion bay drive?
Thanks.
