Re: 5300cs and Wireless

2003-04-06 Thread Roger Adams
Does the Orinoco card work with Apple's Airport Hub?

If so, I may be interested in acquiring one for my 5300ce.

Many thanks

Roger

I have cable internet; do you have to have an airport network set up

My 1400c: 466 G3, 1 meg backside, 64 megs hard ram, 256 V-ram on compact
flash, wireless connection to cable high speed via Linksys Router, CardCam
Video Input, 16 bit video output to 2nd monitor and NTSC monitor via Apple
Presentation System, 20 gig drive in 2 partitions: One loaded for web and
page development, the other for video and sound. Custom painted case -
candy metal flake blue on all but the permanent back portion of the top

This was my second laptop. Clearly I became obsessed with taking this one
to the limit. Had a 160 that I loved to death...ie until it died. I now
use a firewire 600 combo iBook, but the 1400 is my link to all my old serial

Most of the soup ups for the 1400 were trades for other stuff. I don't care
that much that it won't scsi mount anymore, but I really wish that 64 meg
limit was not inviolate...

Re: midi files on a PB1400

2003-04-06 Thread Dana Collins
Hello All,
While I agree with Kenta that OS 9.1 w/QT 6 is a bit much too ask of a PB
1400 with 48Mg RAM, one thing that I would NOT do is play MIDI files (or any
external clock-dependent function) with virtual memory (that would include
RAM Doubler) on - if OS 9.1 is a definite must have, then back QT to ver.
4.1.x and turn virtual memory off - see if that helps, Don.

Also, I agree with the SoundApp assessment - very nice utility; I don't use
it regularly (as I have Dig. Performer, Finale, etc.) but it is very hany
for a quick play - use ver. 2.7 and be sure to get the Drop Decoder to go
with it - hany plug-in.
Best regards,
Dana

 Hi,
I recently installed OS 9.1 and Quicktime 6.x. When I went to play a mid
file, the computer locked up. I installed Ram Doubler and upped the memory
for quicktime. Now it plays but has skips of static. What do I need to do?
I have 48 megs of ram doubled to 96 w/ Ram Doubler.

 Don

try SoundApp for playin all sorts of files, it seems to require less
processor and ram than quicktime - why install 9.1 on 48 mb of ram ?
and a pb 1400 - and QT 6 ? I would think that was asking for trouble
 - but I can not actually say that cause I havent tried it. SoundApp
played well on a 6100 - 32mb of ram and 60hz processor with system
7.6 - but while you played you could barely do nothin else than just
 listen.

Re: 170 Hard drive upgrade woes

2003-04-06 Thread Brad Warriner
Hi, I don't know anything about wiring the connector,
but perhaps you could find an adapter. I've been
having good luck finding some parts on ebay.

I also found this page that describes the different
types of scsi connectors (the illustrations seem to be
actual size on my computer, which is cool). That
helped me better search ebay for the parts I needed.
Here's a link.

http://www.scsimasters.com/cguide.html

Also, I have found several AC adapters available for
sale on ebay. The same adapter is used for the
140-180 powerbooks, and you can often find a powerbook
for sale that includes an AC adapter for $20 or less.

Good Luck,

Brad

Powerbook 170 problem

2003-04-06 Thread Brad Warriner
My 6 year old was playing on my powerbook for a few
minutes, and now my keyboard seems to be locked out.
Every single key makes the same beep sound when
pressed.

I replaced the keyboard, considering the problem might
be with the hardware, but the problem persists.

Has anyone heard of a keyboard lockout command, or
even better, the reversal of such a command?

Thanks,

Brad

I'm having trouble getting my 5300cs to talk with the old apple external

L-addapters thingys. I can hook it up fine and boot the book but when I
put a CD in it hangs and I never see the CD icon. I've got the CD
extension. I even tried rebuilding the desktop but I get a bus error if the
CD's in.
I've got OS 7.5.5 and the usual stuff that goes with it. Am trying to
put OS 8 on the book.

CD's in.
I've got OS 7.5.5 and the usual stuff that goes with it. Am trying to
put OS 8 on the book.

Thanks! -Ben

Re: 8.6 installation problems

2003-04-06 Thread Paul Nelson
I guess that would work-the only problem is that the 6 gig drive I put in
has no OS on it. I have a SCSI CD drive. How would the SCSI CD drive work?
There would be no drivers available for it.
John

I suppose you've formatted the drive? CD-ROM Toolkit will do
nicely for your drive, if it isn't an Apple. The CD should be a abootable
one, so just hold down the c key and boot.
Paul
