2003-06-29 Thread Redicliff
OS 8.6 PB3400 PCMCIA Ethernet card.

I would like to use my internal modem to dial phone numbers from
TouchBasePro and FileMaker. I could do this on my LC but cannot now.
In TCP/IP control panel my ethernet card is selected. Can I
discriminate?

Also, anyone with mac telephony experience? It would be neet to have
the phone on my desktop.

Thanks,
Cliff

190cs and a blank, lit screen

2003-06-29 Thread Ted Lovejoy
Title says it all, almost. I have a powerbook 190cs that seems to power up
(with a disk tools disk). The screen lights up with back light, but that's
all. And this one has been through the REA program. Actually, this belongs
to a friend, and it's the second identical PB with the same identical
problem. Any ideas? Could it be something she's doing? I'll have to ask her
if she stores it next to an industrial magnet or something! (joke)

Thanks for any help,

Ted

OT: Pismos, G3s, iBooks, and OS X

2003-06-29 Thread Andrew Kershaw
I can't even get 10.2 on it as it is now. I had 10.2.6 on it earlier.

Byron
Here's a suggestion: Take your questions to the G-Books list.

Folks, the PowerBooks list is for talking about non-G3/4 PowerBooks.
The iBook and all G3s (Wallstreet, Lombard, Pismo, etc) are off-topic
for this list. OS X is generally off topic as well. No pre-G3
PowerBooks officially support OS X, and only two will run it with
some serious modification. (Isn't there an Unsupported OS X list,
too?)

Sorry for ruining the party, but when the ratio of off-topic to
on-topic posts exceeds 1:1, I start to get cranky.

Besides, you're much more likely to get better quality responses from
folks who use and talk about these types of issues daily - the
G-Books list - as opposed to people who deal with issues on 68k and
earlier PPC PowerBooks. Don't you want to get a good answer to your
questions?

Peace,
Drew

Re: Powerbook 190 case top?

2003-06-29 Thread Jim Scott
Yep, greyscale tops are thinner than the color tops. The screen size
(smaller) and plastic surround are different too. However, the width and
height are the same dimensions. It's not a boring question if you've got a
cracked color lid/top and a good greyscale lid/top, because they won't
interchange and fit properly. -- Jim

I have had several 190/5300 powerbooks and I have just noticed that the top
of my Powerbook 190 is a different from all the others. Does the grey model

Diakwarrior is only meant to work on volumes that are mounted; nothing
scary here, some low level volume info got trashed, likely just the disk
driver, that's why you had to use Norton.

Not to grump about topics, but you might find more people who can help on
the G3 powerbooks list, since more of those guys are going to be running X,
than the # of people on the classic list who happen to also have a early
Wallstreet or whatever it was you are working with.

I would check usenet and old macfixit articles (but you have to pay, I
don't use them much anymore) or old G3 powerbook list posts, for starters.
