Hi, assuming the Trash is empty and there are no files, aliases, or folders
on the desktop that belong to the RAM disk, it is possible that this
problem is the result of an invisible file on the RAM disk. For example, if
you have used file sharing, there will be such a file.

Have you tried formatting the RAM disk? That should wipe out anything left
on the dektop as well as any invisble files.

Well, sort of. The bullet character on a Mac is obtained by holding the
OPTION and SHIFT keys while typing the 8. Thus it is a "high-ASCII"
character. The normal asterisk is ASCII code 42. Can't remember the code
for the bullet, though it is something like 128+42.

Megahertz was bought by US Robotics. Go to this site,
pick your pcmcia card and it will have the download you need.
I have a XJ/CC5560 and the download worked beautifully.
Connected at no less than 32000. Hope this helps.

can't get rid of RAM disk on 5300

2003-07-19 Thread promo

Hi,

I created a RAM disk (35mb) on my 5300. Now I want to increase its size to about 45 or
50mb. I have 64mb hard RAM installed and I'm not using virtual memory.

I started up off the hard drive, took all files out of the RAM disk, restarted, then
went to the memory control panel -- and it's still grayed out and unavailable for the
change.

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks for the help.

The NiCad battery needed replacing though.

Just FYI: The main battery isn't NiCad, it's NiMH. The NiMH kinda
stinks, but man, a NiCad would really suck!

I'm having a similar problem with my PowerBook 3400c. Its really making me
mad because I spent over $400 on the PowerBook, new RAM, 40gb hard drive,
and a StyleWriter II printer.

However, its not limited to the green light, which does come on sometimes.
But sometimes I can get it to boot, but it will shut off suddenly if I
touch the laptop or move it around.

It seems very sensitive to physical touch.

It also doesn't want to start up a lot of times, and a lot of the times the
stagnent green light is on.

Hey,

I got my PB5300 on the cheap with exactly this problem! Have you tried plugging
it into the PSU, holding down reset and then taking the NiCad (not PRAM!)
battery out? mine worked perfectly from that exact situation after doing this!
The NiCad battery needed replacing though.

Re: 5300cs Hurt Feelings?

2003-07-19 Thread Bigbikerbo
dave,

It's probably just the PRAM (internal clock) battery. If not that, then the
power board.
First try plugging it in and hitting that little power button on the back.
That may work. If not, OR if your date/time starts going haywire, then you need
to get a PRAM battery. Pretty easy to install--about 5 min's with a Torx tool.

Try powerbookguy.com or wegenermedia.com---they should have them.
The 5300 tends to not enjoy being left alone like this. I had one that I got
because a guy left it sitting for 3 weeks. I think they do tend to wear their
feelings on their sleeves, as it were!

Re: 5300cs Hurt Feelings?

2003-07-19 Thread Andrew Kershaw
David,

That does sound like the Green Light of Death (GLOD). One symptom of
the GLOD is a (close-to) dead PRAM/clock battery. Have you tried
resetting the Power Manager?

More often than not, fiddling with the Power Manager enough can
rescue a 5300 from the GLOD.

There's a little button on the back of the computer beneath the
video/PDS card port. Push it in and hold it for several seconds.
That will reset the Power Manager. The 5300cs should restart on it's
own, but if it doesn't, push the power button to turn it on. If
nothing happens, keep trying.

It also does help to keep the PowerBook plugged in for 24 - 48 hours.
That can sometimes rescue a heavily depleted PRAM battery.

If nothing works after all this, you could try replacing the PRAM
battery. It will cost less than $20 at Batteries Plus or someplace
similar.

Peace,
Drew

5300cs Hurt Feelings?

2003-07-19 Thread David R.
Hey everyone,

Got a slight prob with my 5300cs running OS 8.1. I haven't used it in a
while but for no reason, the green light on the outside came on yesterday.
Opened it up and it wouldn't start. Left the charger on it all night and
nothing boots even with the adapter left connected. Tried resetting & pram
and nothing there either.

Anybody have any ideas? Could this simply the internal clock battery? That
or I insulted it by neglecting it for so long.

   Thanks

Dave
