540c display

2003-08-19 Thread maxtek
Hi,

Recently my 540c's display has a red hue to it (all the whites are light
pink) and it flickers vertically now and than. As if someone is jingling a
cable. Does it sound like a bad LCD to Motherboard cable or something else?

Yes I did have this PowerBook completely disassembled. I have taken apart
many Macs and PowerBook's but that doesn't mean I didn't damage something.
It used to be a 520c and I upgraded the display, processor card and ram and
replaced some plastics.

I appreciate your help,

maxtek

Re: so dimm for pb2400?

2003-08-19 Thread David Allen
Nope. It needs 2400 specific modules.
http://www.memoryx.net/powerbook2400.html is one source. The desktop Macs
use standard type SIMMs and DIMMs, but the PBs were model specific.

EBM upgrade/hacks info page

2003-08-19 Thread Dan K
I just put up the beginnings of a rough page detailing some salient
points associated with upgrading PB optical EBMs. I do intend to get more
detailed with actual solutions, model numbers, etc. but at this stage I
just wanted to get _something_ up. The G3 section is especially lacking,
as I have to locate some digipics I took awhile back that have somehow
now gone missing . . .

Please check it out and if you are feeling generous I'd be most pleased
to read anyone's critique, both positive _and/or_ negative. Actually, I'd
prefer more of the latter as that's generally the more useful.

TIA,

Dan K

Re: EBM upgrade/hacks info page

2003-08-19 Thread Andrew Kershaw
Hi Dan,

From your page:
Recently released 2X DVD-RW from Matsushita, available here (only
source of which I'm aware). I haven't ponied up the dough for one of
these yet, but I'd sure like to try one in a Pismo EBM! :-) And
being a Matshita drive I'm hopeful the Apple face might even fit!
Did you realize that that particular drive is slot-loading?

Anyway, great page! I'm sure I'll be referring back to it after I
pick up a DVD/CD-RW (heck, maybe I'll go right for the DVD-RW!) for
my new Pismo... ;-)

Peace,
Drew

5300 Powerbook Memory?

2003-08-19 Thread David R.

Hi all,

A friend's friend has a 5300cs (same as mine) and he is wondering what a 24,
32, 48 or higher stick of memory goes for. So I told him I'd check here for
him in case somebody has some for sale.

I guess give me a buzz at my email address and I'll pass it on to him
tomorrow. I assume this person has Paypal, if not he could do a Money
Order.

Thanks,

PowerBook 5300 FAQ updated...

2003-08-19 Thread Andrew Kershaw
I just added section 2.7 on PC cards for the 5300.

I don't have a whole lot of experience with PC cards in general and
less with PC cards on the 5300 specifically. I would appreciate any
tips you folks can give me regarding PC cards that might be used on
the 5300.

Are there any PC Card types I missed outright?

Some feedback would be fantastic!

As always, you can see the PowerBook 5300 FAQ at

But you can assign it as virtual ram and get all the ram you need that way,
as you say:

When I went looking for an upgrade for my 5300 I found that
had the lowest price at the time.
