Re: better browser for OS9.2.2

2005-02-19 Thread Cliff Rediger
Funny. No one mentions Opera.
I wonder if Opera is defunct.
I've been using IE in 9.1 on a 3400
but on basis of this thread
have returned to iCab which I like much better
except for some of those weird pages.
Is there a fix for that?
For awhile Opera was the only browser with which
I could access my checking account.

Back to basics. Clean the contacts inside the battery holder.

Someone mentioned last week in this list that the power manager (board?)
gets messed up by times and needs replacement. I think it was Bruce who
suggested it. Alternatively, corrosion might be the culprit. I know on
my 3400c that there was a fair bit of green gunk on the lead which I had
to clean off.

Re: suggestions for zip drive on 3400c

2005-02-19 Thread The Real Seed Catalogue
what OS on your machine? IIRC 9.1 includes the zip driver but earlier doesn't.
I'm mailing you a copy.
Ben
I've just received another 3400c as a backup for my original one. It
came with a VST zip drive, the one which slips into the
cd/floppy/etc slot.
Neither computer will boot with the drive installed, regardless of
whether it has a disk in it or not. Neither computer will recognize
the drive either.
As soon as a disk is installed, the drive attempts to read it and
seems to scan it for about a minute or so. Then everything stops in
the drive and it's silent.

When the drive finishes trying to read the disk, the icons for the
main hard drive, my shared folder and my flash card icon flash once
as if something, probably the 3400c, is scanning each drive/folder
one by one. I've downloaded a later driver from one of the mac
sites, again to no avail.

Any thoughts? The drive has power and seems to be able to read the
disk but the 3400 can't see it. These are IDE, not scsi right? Is
there a particular VST driver needed?
(I've asked the former owner and the person says the zip was working
on the day of shipping.)

Thanks.

Hi Martin,

You might also try the Opera browser. Opera 6 is the last version that
works under OS8/9. I actually like iCab a little better than Opera, but
Opera seems to be more stable on my machines and gives reasonable
performance.

For System 7, maybe you should give Apple's old Cyberdog a try. (Some
days I feel like an old cyberdog, myself :-)
