What drive can I upgrade a 3400c with?
Just wondering if the 3400c, and 1400c for that matter, will take the same size hard drives out of the lombards and pismos? Other way around can be a problem as the 3400 can take a thicker drive. I don't know about the 1400c. The 5300 (which is older) has different mounting hole patterns. You can still do it in a 5300, you just need to drill new holes. So it depends on whether the 1400s hole pattern is new or old. Worse case is you'd need to drill new holes. -- Clark Martin Redwood City, CA, USA Macintosh / Internet Consulting I'm a designated driver on the Information Super Highway -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Locked scsi disk.
As everybody might know , one of the biggest problems with older Powerbooks is a good working scsi harddisk. I have a a 500 mb scsi disk (in a 540c)that cannot be initialized. Disk utilities(tried 7.6 and 8.1 floppy as norton utilities aswell)sees it but fails to do so.The disk is locked. Is there any way to unlock the disk and initialize it? The only software I found was empro, but I do not know if this will work. any other ideas??. Michel -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Locked scsi disk
You need a formatting utility other than Apple's. I've used LaCie's SilverLining for years, but I'm not sure of the current OS requirements. You can download the current version here: http://www.lacie.com/download/drivers/LaCieUpdater_654.sit It's described as an updater, but I think it's just an installer. Also, you try ATTO's tool, ExpressPro-Tools, again, the OS requirements may be too high for your situation: http://www.attotech.com/software/app1.html#macos9 You need to register (free) to login and DL. You'll need to move the drive to a SCSI-Manager 4.3 compliant desktop Mac to use either of the above tools IIRC. OW, I'm not sure what other freely DL-able formatting utils are out there. dan k -- . http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 . -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
