Go to Radio Shack and get the paste from them. It is the best way to
make sure your cpu doesn't get fried from the heat.

transfer this material to the G3? I have no manual, and it seems to me
that there is a fairly large gap between the new chip and the heat
sink. If any of you have experience with this upgrade I'd appreciate

Thank you for your note, Bruce.

I suspect that you are correct; in the OS upgrade (8.1 to 8.6) and
re-installation of the Dayna CommuniCard driver, I've gotten some things
tangled and misplaced.

We've also noticed a need for a sequenced shut-down and restart of our
dsl
modem and router to get our desktop machines onto the ISP's network.
That,
however, comes after we get the drivers and internal settings selected
correctly.

If it's convenient for you to send screenshots of your TCP/IP panel and
any
Dayna desktop icon there may be in your set-up, I'd find it very
helpful.

Will be trying the same thing with a PB 190, in a week or two. Freshly
upgraded (clean install) to OS 8.6 from OS 8.1.

The ISP (Verizon) recommends that Macs use DHCP to connect (through a
router), but I can't find DHCP as a connection option as I work through

the

TCP/IP control panel.

What does 'Connect Via' show in the TCP/IP control Panel? It should say
Ethernet, or PCMCIA Ethernet or something like that, and there should a
dropdown menu right under that marked Configure: one option is
'Automatically using DHCP server'.

If it says MacIP, you're likely missing the Dayna drivers for the
card...ISTR the Dayna drivers are available buried on Intel's site. ONe
of my desktop Macs is connected via a Dayna commslot ethernet adapter
and all it says is 'Ethernet', but there are several extensions that it
needs to have loaded to work.

The fruits of his campaign: Other World Computing and Crucial Memory
were
among many sites receiving emails from Mr. Bauer, Russ Arcuri, and
possibly others. Both sites contacted us, learned that we were moving
such content elsewhere, and continue to support Low End Mac with ads
and/or affiliate fees.

Mac Zone, Mac Mall, and Verizon DSL have removed us from their affiliate
programs without ever contacting us (or if they did, their emails either
didn't survive our spam filtering or were not sent as plain text email).
I removed all links to Mac Zone about a week ago and all links to Mac
Mall tonight.

I don't have details of our dealings with Mac Zone, but my records show
that over the past year we have generated 16,000 visits, 100 purchases,
and nearly $60,000 in sales volume. I am disappointed that they would
give this up without saying a thing to us.

I recommend that if you value Low End Mac, you take your business to
dealers who support our site -- OWC, Crucial Memory, Small Dog
Electronics, PowerMax, Club Mac, and MacResQ among them -- and not
support businesses such as Mac Mall, Mac Zone, and Verizon DSL that have
pulled their support from Low End Mac.

If you do choose to boycott any of these businesses, you might want to
tell them why. What goes around comes around.
