Check your Appletalk setting (modem port, printer port or Ethernet if you use a Ethernet card) and restart.

Chris

I finally sat down last night to set my 5300 for use on my home network,
only to realize that I don't know what I'm doing.

This is a bit embarrassing, as I have set up hundreds of pc's for this same
thing, and had no trouble at all doing so with my eMac, in both classic and
ten.

I found the tcp/ip control panel pretty easily, set it to dhcp server. the
ip address doesn't display, although it says it's getting it from the dhcp
server, in this case, the router?

I set the router address. Still nothing. The little lights on my asante
ethernet card are blinking, so i don't think thats the problem.

I'm running 8.1. I have a copy of 8.5 and the updater for 8.6, but it's on
cd and i need the ethernet connection to get it on the hard drive.

I went from System 6 to Win 9X to OS X, and quite honestly, i feel a bit
lost in 8.1. Much of this stuff I only vaguely recognise. Can't seem to find
a version of stuffit that will run on 8.1. Gah!

Any help you guys might be able to offer is of course, vastly appreciated!
