Re: PowerBooks 1400

2004-01-06 Thread Gary K . Doty Sr .
You might try going to the "System Folder"
open it and go to the "Preference Folder"
Find the preference file for the pool game
and drag only that preference file to the trash.
Sometimes this starts the game over like you have never played it
before.
It may work or it may not.

I bought a used 1400 for my grandson. There was a Pool game loaded and
he enjoyed playing it. He no longer is able to do so, there is a
registration problem. Can anyone tell me the history of this game and
where may I get it for him? I don't know its origin.

Run, or anyone, can a CD unit be added to this computer?
Thanks, and a Great New Year to all.

How much is a G3 upgrade for an ancient 1400 ?
A MainStreet is no faster than a PB3400c/240 (it benches 30 percent
faster,
but in the real world it's not) and has a subpar passive-matrix
screen. I
wouldn't normally recommend one of those without a CPU upgrade,
either, but
it would definitely do the trick as an MP3 jukebox without any
modification.

You can get an older NewerTech G3 1400 upgrade (210-250 MHz range) for
less
than $150 when they turn up, but you might do some looking. A 1400/G3
with
one of those would be faster than a MainStreet, but nowhere near a
WallStreet model designed with a G3 in mind. Sonnet 333 upgrades show
up
from time to time, they're a little faster but sell for a little more.

Sonnet sells a G3/466 upgrade for the 1400 for $300, which according to
reports puts a 1400 on about equal terms with a 333-366 range iBook.
At that
speed, the 1400 is held back by its ancient disk controller
(NuBus-based)
and its slow system bus.

OSX on3400/180???

2003-07-01 Thread Gary K. Doty Sr.
Hello
I am curious if anybody out there is running OS X on a 3400/180.
I know that it must be slow.
But I use my 3400 for writing music (Metro 6-(mainly midi files)) and
for surfing the web and checking email.

I was just wondering!!!
