Hi There is not a rd that works in 9.1 yet according to mac format mag
anyhow i use vm on my 3400c with 64mb ram real and vm set to 120 the system
uses 19mb ram with vm but if i turn it off it uses 48mb ram leaving the rest
for apps and that slows things down alot if you want to speed thing up i
have found that in 9.1 if you double your ram with vm this works ie 36 would
go to 72 but if you go any higher then things tend to start being funny.

 Victoria.
PS if you find a rd version that claims to work with 9.1 send me the link so
 i can try.
Hi
I am using Ram Doubler 9 with 9.1 on a 1400C. It works great without a
hitch.
Hope this helps.

Hi
Just a note to affirm that OS 9.1 will run on a 5300. We had it loaded on my

the better one is the US Robotics. The software is already on your computer,
loaded with the OS. Look under the apple menu-Control panels-Modems, and

Re: 1400c RAM expansion

2002-09-10 Thread Kountryone

on 9/10/02 14:08, Rick McCutcheon at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Hi PBListers,

I'm about to open my PB1400c/117/32 for the first time (yippee!). Never
done it before, but readiing the manual seems to indicate that it's not
difficult (if I can tear apart and rebuild a Rochester carb, surely I
 can handle a 1400? :-{)

Anyway, my reason for opening it is to determine the configuration of the
current 32 Megs of Ram in preparation for maxing it out to 64. Eventually
 leading to a G3 card.

**Will it be clear once I get inside what the configuration is? Does each
card say something obvious like 24RAM on it?**

I assume if I'm lucky, the previous owner will have had 12 standard and
added a 24 to get to 32. This would leave me to get a 32 Meg card. If
there was 16 originally it would have either another 16 meg card or two 8s
(is there even an 8Meg card option?).

The worst scenario would be for there to be two 12Meg cards already filling
the expansion slots, which would mean taking one out and putting in 32 for
a total of 56 is this correct? Or is there such thing as a 40 Meg Ram card
(I've never heard of such a beast). I have seen a 48 Meg card, and that
would add up to 60Megs with the original 12 - or 64 if it started out with
 16 - am I missing something?

 Thanks for your help,
 Rick

Hi Rick
Your 1400 came from Apple with 8MB on the motherboard and either 12 or 16 MB
onboard according to everymac.com. The ram can be piggybacked when you add.
Hope this helps

I do have an old copy of Claris 2.0 trial which will self destruct in 30

I guess what I am asking is:

Does anyone have the full version of HomePage 3.0 or even FrontPage they

Hi
We have a copy of Page Mill I think version 3. We may have front page for
mac. I don't know if they will work on 68k or not. What about page mill 3.0
will it work on the 68k. If it will I could send it to you.
Please advise

Re: PB 190 whistling power

2002-08-16 Thread Kountryone

Hello Everyone
I have a PB190 that makes a whistling sound after it is turned off, and the
power cord is still plugged in. The whistling will stop when the cord is
removed (AC). You can plug the cord back in after the whistling stops and it
is okay, no noise. The battery stays full if it is plugged in, but if you
don't plug the cord back, the battery will be very low in less than 24
hours. Do any of you smarter than me people know what could be wrong??
Thanks
Jim

I have a bunch of PB 5xx parts (including a 32MB RAM card and PPC

Hi Andrew
What kind of price are you wanting for the PPC upgrade card???

I'm not sure, but perhaps Real Player? Try it out. At least it's a free

CD Rom drive

2002-07-16 Thread Kountryone

Hi All
I have a Matshita DVD ROM Drive SR-8183 PCMCIA card drive, that I would like
to use with my 5300cs. I have tried to find a driver on the internet and
can't. When I tried to load CD ROM toolkit it gave me errors in the loading
procedure. The computer has 64MB of ram so that shouldn't be a problem. I
know the drive works because we have run it on a PC with no problems, Win 98
loads a driver for it. Does anyone have an idea of how to make it work on
the 5300cs. All I really want is the driver that will run the CD part.
Thanks Jim

We understood completely, and thought it was cute - and why not lighten the
day for everyone. A few laughs are good for everyone, and as you know, we
all need to lighten up a little. Life is tough enough without everyone
taking everything so serious.

I had never taken a power book apart before, but find, if you have the
manual (PDF) they are a tremendous help. They save you from ripping the
fragile cords, which I have done!!

Hang in there...and know that some of us DO have a sense of humor.
