Re: Bigger harddrive for Powerbook Kanga
Hi, Are there drives the controller does not recognize ? Are there drives MacOS 8.6 hd-drivers will not work on ? What migth be the maximum size ? I am thinking about a 40 or 80 GByte drive. The HFS+ file system can handle any size drive you choose to put into your Kanga, and the controller won't have any problem with it. Some recent ATA-6 drives seem to have problems in the 3400 and Kanga, but I've never heard anyone having a problem with a Hitachi drive. Those are based on the same IBM technologies that were used in the OEM drives Apple provided. The recent Seagate drives have had all sorts of trouble in these 'Books; I think a few people on this list can attest to that. thanks for the infos. I will give IBM/Hitachi a try. Just to be sure, can anyone confirm one of the following drives: 40GB IBM/Hitachi HTS548040M9AT00, Travelstar 5K80 60GB IBM/Hitachi HTS548060M9AT00, Travelstar 5K80 80GB IBM/Hitachi HTS548080M9AT00, Travelstar 5K80 80GB IBM/Hitachi IC25N080, 8MB Cache -- +---+ | () Gruesse/regards [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.mague.org | | /\ Manfred GuentnerICQ: 91842230 | +---+ -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Anyone running a Linux on a Kanga ?
Hi, while it is no Problem to run a Linux on the Hooper, it is one with Kanga. Wenn booting a kernel on Kanga, there is no video. I can hear the harddrive and cd-rom working, but all i see is the frozen MacOS screen. -- +---+ | () Gruesse/regards [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.mague.org | | /\ Manfred GuentnerICQ: 91842230 | +---+ -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Anyone running a Linux on a Kanga ?
Just curious, what Linux OS are you using and is it faster than OS9 or On the 3400 there is a Debian Sarge (kernel 2.4.25). Everything ist running fine. Even WLAN or sleepmode when closing the lid. The battery keeps going longer with Linux. whatever was on the 3400? I always found Linux faster than any windows os I used and curious about it on my 3400c. It is somehow faster, depending what you want to do with it. It might be fun. The Hoopper was for a time my only portabel. Its got a wlan-card, a working USB pc-card for my Fuji-cam and even dialup with IrDa and cellphone works. My job brougth it (working on FreeBSD), that one day i wanted to have some Unixflavor too :) Some days ago i buyed a Kanga and wanted to install it like the 3400. -- +---+ | () Gruesse/regards [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.mague.org | | /\ Manfred GuentnerICQ: 91842230 | +---+ -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... If you have available, then give MacOS 8.6 a try :) +---+ | () Gruesse/regards [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.mague.org | | /\ Manfred GuentnerICQ: 91842230 | +---+ -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Best OS for Wallstreet 233(slightly reverting back to my problem)
Hello Dan, Go to www.powerbook3400c.com i looked at your page since i have a Hooper too. Much detail is given there. This is the NEW location of my famous Hooper Hotrodding pages. Let me tell you something about plannedfutureupgrades.html If you want to install Linux on the Hooper i would not use BlueLabel. Try a direct installation on a second partition. On my Hooper there is a Debian Sarge with Kernel 2.4.25 running. Very stable. Everything is supportet, even 802.11b. With BootX you can at boottime select which OS you want to load. Anotherthing is: I want to give DVD a try too. I bought a slimline from a bigger Powerbook and will try to build it in. -- +---+ | () Gruesse/regards [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.mague.org | | /\ Manfred GuentnerICQ: 91842230 | +---+ -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
