One great thing abaout the 233 cacheless dog is that it will upgrade to
the 250 and 292 Mhz processor card. I suppose that means that it ups the
bus speed to 83.

I agree. I found a 300 Mhz Wallstreet with 512 MB RAM to be a quite

decent with OS X. It's certainly 'X-challenged' unless it's configged
 right, though

BTW, which WS are you running? A WS I or a WS II? You also forgot to
  mention what the clock is

Yeah, if you have a 'Series I' cache-less 233 MHz 'Mainstreet' you have
a *DOG* as far as OS X is concerned. Of course, Daystar has a G4/466
upgrade for $170 that you might find worthwhile

Re: Some questions about PB500 series batteries

2005-11-05 Thread Paul F. Nelson
Hi,
You need some of the PB500 restoration programmes, like EMMpathy
and the Mac one (whose name escapes me) I wrote a small tretise on the
subject which I'll forward from my battery file.
BTW, who wants a copy of the 500 take apart video? You have to be
willing to copy it twice, and pass it on to two other listers, etc for
free. That way I'll copy mine once and send it to cary on the chain. This
should be old enough to fall into the public domain.

Re: Some questions about PB500 series batteries

2005-11-05 Thread Paul F. Nelson
Don't expect the programmes to pass the battery with flying colours, even
though the battery takes a full charge and functions well. Go to Smart
Probe in EMMpathy and pay attention to what it tells you is the maximum
capacity of the battery. If it tells you it's 1752 mah, (or better, as
there are batteries which have better capacity than the Apple ones) then
just keep going till it fills that capacity.

Re: nanny note Re: Service manual

2005-10-10 Thread Paul F. Nelson
The policy arose because of Apple's habit of having the service manuals
available on a website, freely available, until they decided that too many
of us great unwashed were getting access to them. Publication of their
(and others) website URLs would cause them to immediatley hide the
material. The best way to deal with this is to do it privately. There
should be NO banning of the question on the list, only of answering it.
BTW, a list member kindly sent me a CD-ROM of these, and I would be glad
to share it with people, if there is an easy way to do it.

have had it handy without threading through all those Apple search

Now, distributing the document itself is another matter entirely,

  widely known.

I'm not sure you actually got the TECHNICIANs service manual from
Apple- which is what people were asking about.

Maybe you did, but I suspect not.

Go to Smart Probe in Emmpathy, and it gives you the fine details,
including total capacity, current charge, etc. At that point, all you
need to do is let it charge to that total capacity.

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has had a problem running a music CD on a
 system similar to mine.
Whilst the Powerbook see's the drive and can use it for data use as soon as
I put a music CD in and run either the supplied software or Apples CD player
 the whole machine freezes.

Whilst I am not likely to use this machine that often for this use it would
be interesting to find out why this is happening.
I have tried turning of the La'Cie extensions but that made no difference.
 Any suggestions ?
