Re: Dayna Communicard Ethernet Adapter Software?

2003-09-05 Thread Ronald Romine
I need the Dayna Communicard Ethernet Adapter software for my 1400c
w. MacOS 9.1, as the card does not function.
I did a Google search, and found only an old version, 1.2.1.
Another version, 2.3, is corrupted on the only site that carries it.
So, if anyone out there has a copy or knows where to get a newer OS
8.6 or 9.1 compatible version, please contact me off list.
I'm not sure where you can currently find it, but version 2.2 of the
Dayna Communicard could be found in one of the extra folders of the
OS 8.1 install disk. This version of the software works under 9.1 on
my 1400.

Whatever version you do use (2.2 or 2.3), make sure you select
version 2.0 for Card Services. The 1400's ROMs do not support
Version 3.0 services.

Re: Problematic 1400+ethernet?

2003-02-12 Thread Ronald Romine
Hey guys, for the last 3 days I have been trying to get my ethernet to work
again on my PowerBook 1400c and for the life of me I can't. The card as far

Dayna CSS INIT (driver)

Card:
Dayna CommuniCard Ethernet Adapter (PCMCIA)

I also use a Dayna CommuniCard Ethernet Adapter (PCMCIA) with my
1400, however i found that the newer driver for the card doesn't work
with my 1400.

If I remember correctly ...

The drivers installed by CommuniCard Installer v2.2, (which came on
my 8.1 install CD) works without problems on my 1400 under 9.1.

However, the drivers installed by the CommuniCard Installer v2.3,
(downloaded from the internet) did not work.

My best guess is that the 2.3 software only installs version 3.0 of
the Card Socket Services. The 1400 only supports version 2.0,
(version 3.0 is for 2400, 3400 and later powerbooks).

Note that CommuniCard Installer v2.2, allows the installation of
either version 2.0 or 3.0 of the Card Socket Services.

Re: Problem installing Asante FriendlyNet PCMCIA Card into PB1400

2002-08-11 Thread Ronald Romine

Hello.

I've just bought a brand new Asante FriendlyNet Integrated
PCMCIA/Cardbus Ethernet card for my secondhand PB1400.

The PB1400's is only 16-bit PCMCIA II (with Zoomed Video), Cardbus is
the newer 32-bit standard which shipped with later Powerbooks.

Most likely the Asante card only works with Cardbus.

The best I can do is to get the icon on the desktop, but when I
do a Get Info on the icon, the system thinks it's a memory PC
card. Even an old PC network card that doesn't have Mac drivers
will show up as a network card on my PB1400.

Most likely the old PC network card is 16-bit PCMICA.

Re: Powerbook 1400 question

2002-05-09 Thread Ronald Romine

Hi all

I have a Powerbook 1400 coming in the mail and I just read there is a
internal slot for a external video or a Ethernet card. What kind of Ethernet
card can the 1400 use?

The internal slot is a custom slot, and can only take cards
specifically designed for it. These can usually be found on E-bay.

However, the 1400 also has two 16-bit PC Card slots, which can take
any 16-bit 10Mbps Ethernet card *IF* a driver is provided. Some of
the drivers for the cards from Dayna, Farallon, etc., also work with
generic cards.

On Dr.Bott's website I've seen 16-bit 100/10Mbps Ethernet PC cards for the Mac.

Re: 1400 Crescendo 466

2002-03-30 Thread Ronald Romine

Has anyone had a similar experience?

A couple of days ago I rec'd a new Sonnet Crescendo PB G3 466 mhz for my
1400cs (OS 8.5) From what I understand this card is the most recent
upgrade available from Sonnet. I installed the card according to
instructions. In the problem-solving section it mentions that if the
PowerBook fails to startup after installation that the power button must
be held in the depressed position for 8-10 hrs. to reset the power manager
(whatever that is). This I did TWICE, with no success.

I've upgraded two different (117-Mhz) 1400cs with Apple's own 133-Mhz
processors, and both times I had funky problems appear.

I used the brute force method of removing the main battery,
unplugging the computer and resetting the PRAM a half dozen times.
Then using TOOL TECH LITE to zap the PRAM again.

My best guess is info about the CPU and/or cache is stored in the
PRAM. If the PRAM isn't flushed, the computer will fail to notice a
hardware reconfiguration has occurred and locks up.

Re: Type of PowerBooks

2001-07-15 Thread Ronald Romine

I'm just curious. What kind of PowerBooks do most people on this list use?
I remember awhile back when I was on the compact.macs list they did
something like this and everyone responded what kind of compact Macs they
had.

I have:

Powerbook 150
Powerbook 180
Powerbook 520c
   Duo 280c (with DuoDock II)
Powerbook 1400cs (was 117 but upgraded to 133)
 Pismo(400-Mhz version)
