Re: Best Mobile Phone set up for Wallstreet?

2003-03-22 Thread Webmaster
Hi

I have to get a mobile phone to use specifically with my Wallstreet 14 TFT
in Europe.
Does anyone know which is the best mobile phone to use and what else I would
need to get my laptop online 'on the move'?

Cheers,

Simon

Do I need a Screen Filter?

2002-10-02 Thread Webmaster

Hi

Does anyone know the best screen filter for a 14 Wallstreet and where I can
get one?

I sit at my laptop for atleast 8 hours a day and a friend mentioned I was

Nope. LCD's are radiation free. The voltages involved aren't high
enough--as in 20++ kilovolts--to create any sort of rays. You likely
pick up more radiation on the way to work.

An X-ray machine fires electrons at a target at very high voltages, and
X-rays are generated when the electrons slam into the target. A CRT has
much the same effect in that electrons are fired at either a shadowmask
or grille. But they aren't specifically designed to create X-rays, they
just sorta do at a very low level, because it's the nature of the beast.

Give your friend an aluminum beanie. :-D

I will do :-)

Thanks!

Re: USB on a PB1400?

2002-06-15 Thread webmaster

wrote:

First of all, most Mac laptops will never support USB. However, there is
light at the end of your tunnel: get your hands on a Mac with a PC Card
slot. Namely, the 5300 series and the 1400 series, if i remember right,
 have a PCMCIA slot.

The slots on these computers are not CardBus compatible, and since USB is
a 32-bit interface and requires the 32-bit capabilities of CardBus, using
a PCMCIA USB adapter is out. However, if all you need to do is read CF
cards, go out to Best Buy or any decent computer store and pick up a
CompactFlash-to-PCMCIA card adapter (about $10-15). This little device is
shaped exactly like a PCMCIA card, and has a space to slide in your CF
card. When this is done, and you install it in a slot on your PB, it will
appear on the desktop just like another hard disk. When you eject it,
the card itself should actually pop out of the slot.

You can also find adapters for Smart Media, MMC, and Memory Stick memory
cards that will convert any of those cards to a PCMCIA card. The only
thing you must ensure is that the adapter will emulate a PCMCIA ATA disk.
For the CF adapters this is a given because all CF cards emulate an ATA
disk (basically, they pretend to be an IDE hard drive!) and the adapter
does nothing of its own except to put the square peg in the round hole
(it makes the pins on the CF card match their equivalents in the PCMCIA
slot). However, for other memory standards compatibility is entirely up to
the adapter because the memory cards themselves do not emulate ATA.
I would feel pretty confident however that any PCMCIA adapter would
emulate an ATA disk so basically any PCMCIA flash memory should be
 compatible.

I've successfully read CF cards and Smart Media cards using the
aforementioned adapters and even have used the older full-size PCMCIA Type
II memory cards in a 5300 with no problems under Mac OS 8.1. If the 1400
has PC card slots (I'm pretty sure it does) you shouldn't have any
problems when and if you get one. I'm not sure if there are any OS issues
on OS'es other than 8.1, but hopefully everything will just work as it
 always should on a Mac.

 Good luck

download images from a Digital Camera on the road. I don't want or need to
spend a fortune for something that's not going to be used a lot. But I've
 always liked the 1400's.

Hi People

I finally received my replacement Sonnet G3 card, which Sonnet have upgraded
to 466mhz because of the hassle Iv'e had.

However, when I went to put the card in I noticed that above where the logic
bpoard is located, to the right of the processor is another card.

Does anyone know what this is and what it does. I only noticed it because
Sonnet's installation instructions didn't show this component in the photo
instructions.

Cut to the chase buddy and just return it. They'll send you an RMA number

Look on the bright side - you could be in the UK and have to pay two lots of

I too was shocked by Sonnet's aftercare...

Hi Ben

Thanks for your reply. I have been quoted £300 to get it repaired but most
repair outfits I contacted said it wasn't worth doing and tried to flog me a
new iMac at £500.
I was told I'd need a new screen unit that would take a week to come from
the US!

To tell you the truth I am all set to ditch desktops for a secondhand
Wallstreet or PDQ...my iMac was brand new when I bought it and its only
lasted four years!

Thanks for your help.

Best wishes,

Simon

I know..its all very well saying that in hindsight but really, should we
expect to pay hundreds of pounds for stuff thats not going to last?
