We didn't have any luck getting our cheapola Ixla to
work on any of our macs, not any of the powerbooks,
nor the desktops systems (6500 and imac) So don't
blame yourself. I think it's the Ixla, not your
system.

Luckily I've had nothing but happy good luck with my
Olympus D-40 zoom. It is a mass storage suppport
device that uses smart media cards. I use a floppy
device to read its smartmedia cards onto the older
desktop systems, but it can be plugged into usb on the
imac. I assumed that it wasn't going to be directly
pluggable into the macally usb card I use in my 3400,
so at first I used a smart card reader that plugged
into the usb port. But just recently I forgot that it
wasn't supposed to work, and I plugged the camera
right into the macally usb card, and the camera
mounted as a volume just the way it does on the imac,
allowing me to drag and drop files off the card in the
camera. Note -- the camera is a mass storage support
device. So I don't really know how that happened. I'm
still running 8.6, but I do have the "hacked cardbus
upgrade" perhaps something I installed to support
cardbus enabled my usb mass storage support.

About Camedia, the software that comes with the D-40Z
-- you don't need it. The camera makes .jpg files. I
edit and print them from PhotoShop. If you have a
version of PhotoShop elements it will do the trick and
save you hard drive space.

Also -- for those who are suffering 1400 and 3400 pram
and green light of death problems --try just taking
all the batteries out and leaving it unplugged for at
least 24 hours. Take out all the batteries, the pram,
the removable battery and of course don't plug in the
ac adapter. Leave it for as long as 72 hours if you
can stand it. Then plug it all back up with known
good pram and known good (recharged if possible)
removable, and the ac adapter. Try to boot with the
power button. If no go, try reset, then try the power
button again. Can't promise anything here but we
found that drill helpful.

3400/ usb camera recommendations?

2003-12-28 Thread kaldav
Hello,
I have been able to get usb to work with system 9.1 with a zip drive
and a usb fan!!
However, when installing my Ixla digital camera software, the
installer removed all the USB system extensions I had installed, then
when I plugged it into the Macally usb card, it froze the system.
Therefore, can anyone recommend a digital camera that will connect
via the usb Macally card on a 3400 and will also work with system OSX
on a later ibook? Thanks.
