USB: Yes. FW: Not yet but I believe possible In either case you have to insert the card AFTER booting for it to work. This means alway remembering to eject it before shutdown. I have an applescript that does this for me now. Firewire does work. 3400 with 40Gig hard disk
Hello from the Netherlands, I've removed the original 3 Gig hard disk from a Powerbook 3400/240 and installed a 40 Gig hard drive (I think it's called IDE, I know it was amazingly cheap). A bit tricky for someone who usually only uses his hands to lift a ballpoint or a sandwich - but all's fine. I made five partitions of 8 Gig; running OS 7.x (with old and beloved software), 8.1 (when burning CD's), 8.6 (to backup via the net, with Synchronize Pro) and 9.1 (some specific applications). And still plenty-plenty-plenty of space left! I use a 512 Mb Compact Flash card to boot (OS 8.6) and run some additional stuff. Furthermore I use the second PCICIA slot with a 5 Gig Toshiba hard disk to backup critical files. Anyone interested to do the same upgrade: just let me know and I'll be happy to tell him/her where to stop and think first. --- MY question: did anyone succeed to add USB capabilities to his 3400? Or better: Firewire? Thank you for your answer(s)! Kind regards, Hans Doeleman Haarlem -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
