Re: 540c With 88MHz PPC Upgrade and a Problem

2001-08-30 Thread macnifico

Hi again, everyone!

Can somebody e-mail me the enabler for the PB 540c with PPC upgrade?
Somebody sent me the enabler for the 040, but no dice.
Or if somebody has the Newer ext. and CP?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, Paul!

Thank you for your kind offer. Yes, I installed Mac OS 7.6, it is the
only OS CD that it makes it start up.
Everything looks fine in the System Folder. I deleted the usual junk
that it is installed and it is not used by the 540c with PPC upgrade.
I re-installed it twice, w/o deleting anything, on the chance that I did
something wrong. No luck...
Maybe it needs some enabler? Although they should be rolled into the
system by then.
Oh, well... I'll open it up later, just to check that everything is
properly seated. And I have a spare 540 w/o screen, which I use as a
desktop from time to time. I'll exchange the HD's, just in case...
Best regards.

Nice try, but there is no such thing as a 520 motherboard. All the
5XX's have the same mb, with different 040 or PPC daughtercards. All
speeds are a product of the daughtercard processor.
I have the installation of 7.5.3 and 7.5.5, Fax modem, and Nupower
v1.2 from one of my PPC 5XX's. E-mail me off list, and I'll see if I can
get them to you. BTW, do you have at least 7.5.3? It isn't supposed to
run without it, plus the Nupower.

The speed is normally set on the CPU card. I can take a 540 CPU (33
MHz) and use it to replace a 520 CPU (25 MHz), and it works fine at
33 MHz.

I think I got it.

This PowerBook, although it has the 540c screen, must have a 520 motherboard,
which has a 25 MHz bus.

That would give us:

25 * 3.5 = 87.500

I have not opened the little beast yet, but will do so tomorrow. Then I'll
check if it is a 520.

The 520, 520c, 540 and 540c motherboards are identical.

The processor board, which is replaced when the PPC upgrade is installed, has
the processor's master oscillator.

But your theory sounds good, otherwise.

 Hi again!

I just checked and yes, it says:

Processor: PowerPC 603e at 88 MHz

Another thing:
It does not start with my Mac OS 8 CD, but it starts with the NAV v5.0,
which has Mac OS 8.1.
Maybe the Hard Disk is not doing well...?
I have never heard of a 88 MHz, too.
How can I send a screenshot to the list?
Any useful suggestion, anyone?

Best regards.

88 MHz ? Sounds like all the programs are not reading the speed
correctly. 83 MHz might be possible (33 x 2.5). Do you have the
NewerTech Guages ? These are usually spot on for reporting CPU
