I guess you can setup TCP/IP on this machine. Which OS do you have
installed ? Add there are 68k clients for telnet, ssh, ftp, email
and WWW.

You mean the serial port ? You can plug in a modem to come online.
If you can find somewhere a software for SLIP and a fitting cable
you can also connect to a Unixserver. Or you can connect to another
Mac.

Reading mails, writing letters, use it as ssh terminal to a Unix-
workstation. For your daughter ther are some old games to play.

Try some google. There are many sites with 68k stuff.

Install on your linuxbox the hotlineclient hx (terminal) or gtkhx (x11)
then you can get some stuff from my public 68k server fw.mague.org.
user or pass is not required. As far as i know everything there is legal.

Then you have to enable HFS somehow on Linux to use floppy-discs
between Linux and Powerbook.

For networking on old Macs you find here a little:

I found a free InterSLIP at the university of Berlin

http://autos.cs.tu-berlin.de/~unicef/SLIP.html

Its in german. Here are the downloadlinks:

ftp://ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de/pub/mac/comm/Engst/interslip-installer.sea

http://autos.cs.tu-berlin.de/doku/script.rtf

About the cables: I dont know if you can get one easy. Probably not.
Try to find a website where the pins are described. Maybe someone here
on the list has already a constructional drawing...

No, sorry not.

It is fun :) If not, this list would not exist :)

Google will deliver lots of them. Many universities have download
areas of old and very old macsoftware.

Bowser, ssh/telnet and ftp you will get on my hotline.
They work all with system 7.5.x . Should run on 7.1 also.

If you can not use hotline, then i will put some applications
on a webserver to download. Just let me know.

Hi from newbe

2004-12-13 Thread Ben Clewett
Newbie just subscribed to this group.

I hope this is the right group, and if not, please ignore an
inappropriate postings from my self :)

I have just come into ownership of a perfect PowerBook Duo 210. Donated
as a toy for my baby daughter. Having spent only a few minutes I have
been amazed by what a capable, easy to use and pleasant device this is.

Such a wonderful device must of course be made to work at something
productive clever and worthy of the Apple name. More than a toy for my
baby daughter. I am sure she will thank me this one day :)

Not knowing anything about these I have some questions and I hope there
may be some users who may know.

Firstly, does this device run TCP/IP with FTP, Telnet and maybe an email
reader? Does anybody have some software?

Secondly, does anybody know how I convert the 'PS2' style network plug
into 10baseT?

Thirdly and most important, can any users suggest a good use for such a
lovely device?

Regards,

Ben Clewett.
