It's likely an extension conflict somewhere, that is keeping the finder
from quitting.

Mine just started to do this too, I've recently added a handful of things
to an already loaded system, and I've not had time to track it down.

There's nothing in the Startup or Shutdown Items folders. The problem
also occurs before any OS has loaded.

My PB 1400 won't turn off!

2002-08-20 Thread Sean McGroty

I've got a really strange problem with my PB 1400 - it won't power off
at all.

If I shut down from within the Finder, it restarts.

I have Password Security turned on. If I click cancel, which normally
shuts off the computer, it immediately restarts.

If I let the Password Security dialog time out and auto shut down, it
restarts.

If I press the power button on the back at any time, it restarts.

If I remove the internal keyboard and power on with the button on the
back, then power off, it restarts.

If I remove power (battery and power adapter), then plug the battery or
adapter back in, it restarts.

It's not a stuck power key, since once I boot normally, the dialog box
associated with the power key does not appear, also, the problem appears
without any sort of keyboard attached.

I've zapped the PRAM with TechTool, didn't do anything.

I tried removing all the RAM cards.

The system does go to sleep, though.

The last thing I did before the problem appeared was run SerialCheck
with a UPS attached to the serial port using a DIN-8 to DB-25 adapter.

The system itself has a Sonnet 400 MHz upgrade, has been recently
upgraded to 64 MB RAM, and has an IBM 4.3 GB hard disk. The 1400 worked
fine until some time after the upgrades were performed, so I don't think
they have anything to do with my situation.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
