This suggestion got me on the right track. I went to my backup of the
original system, as it came to me, and copied the PowerPort control panel,
extension and toolbox and restarted and AOL now works great.

Thanks for the help!

Go back to the old system folder and retrieve the cp and extension for
PowerPort.

PB 540c modem gone bad??

2003-01-05 Thread Mark Winchester
I was given a PB 540c that was having a consistent (Epson) printer
connection issue. After a number of attempts to resolve the issue, we
decided the best option was to do a clean install of the OS (was 7.5.3, now
7.6) and this resolved the printer connection issues. We reformatted the HD,
then installed 7.6. A new problem seems to have arisen - we don't seem to be
able to use the modem. Previously we used AOL 3.0 and it accessed the modem
fine. But now we are unable to get it to work at all. My suspicion is the
modem initialization is failing, but nothing we have tried works. I was able
to install AOL 4.0, which has better automated options for dealing with
modems and it is unable to find the modem (using 4.0 was a suggestion from
AOL tech support).

I'm hard pressed to think the modem has gone bad suddenly, but everything I
try seems to suggest that. Any clues any one has to offer?

P.S. I had copied over modem, TCP/IP, AOL prefs, etc from the original
system from the complete CD backup we did, but that did us no good and AOL
tech support stated it wouldn't use those prefs until it was logged in to
the account the first time - something we've not been able to accomplish.

TIA,

Mark
