PB1400 - GW Solo 2100
Would the card cage work in a 520? Donna Pointer-- iMac, ergo iAm Was the screen compatible ? It seems to be too much of a coincidence. Mad Dog YES. It was the same screen 11.3 the only differances with it is the metal caseing that goes around the screen to bolt to the book cover. even the connectors fit. i still have a spare pcmcia cage from an acer and that looks identical to the one that is in my 1400 now i will check if that work also not this week though. i have sick babies in the house. I know the track pad works as i used that in the 5300 also and then installed the clickpad software to make it tapable. Victoria. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... PB1400 - GW Solo 2100
I thought this was kind of interesting. I was looking over a Gateway Solo 2100 portable computer that friend had. Because he had several and he is also a mad scientist, he let me take it apart. While doing so I noticed some really incredible similarities to the apple PB1400. The batteries are almost identical. The only difference that I cand find in the NiMH batts is that the gateway battery has a slightly different front lip which just barely prevents the battery from locking into the PB1400. A little knife work might fix that. Some of the later solos came with Li-ion batts - I wonder if those would work The Gateway layout is very close to the mac. The PCMCIA card bay is in the same place, the CD/floppy bay is in the same place, and _almost_ fits an apple CD ROM (probably the casing, not the mechanism). The CPU is in the same spot, and you get into the guts of the book by pulling off the top grill. The gateway I saw had a 12.1 active matrix screen, and did not look to be compatible with the PB1400. However, some Solo 2100 come with 11.3 passive matrix screens, which just might be the same as with the apple. Thats a whole lot of coincidence Mad Dog -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Hi Mad dog First do you pull everything to bits. There are a lot of similarities i acer notebooks of the extensa 355 range also. The screen is the same just different mounting holes(same connectors on screen and motherboard), the pcmcia cage is also the same and the track pad. i also used the floppy from an acer to replace the floppy inside the moduale of my 5300c before i sold it. I am very glad to see that it is not only me that has to find out how things work before i use them. Victoria. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
