Re: PB1400 -> scsi cd-rw question

2004-01-28 Thread Andrew Kershaw
Don't bother thinking too hard about SCSI Manager 4.3. It's built
into the ROM of the Mac, so if your Mac doesn't have it, your Mac
doesn't have it. You can't upgrade via software to SCSI Manager 4.3.

The 190/5300 and 1400 do not have SCSI Manager 4.3.

Toast 3.5, IIRC, doesn't care about SCSI Manager much. It shipped
with my LaCie drive about 6 years ago. And I'm pretty sure I've used
it on my 5300 before...

Peace,
Drew

Re: PB1400 -> scsi cd-rw question

2004-01-28 Thread sirksd
I use 8.6 on a 3400 and burn CDs. I use a different CD burner. Doing a find
for scsi I couldn't find a scsi manager 4.3 - SCSIProbe 4.3 is the closest that
I could find. I also use Toast 4 with no problems. It maybe is slow, but not
painfully so. So I would think that your burner should work right now.

Re: PB1400 -> scsi cd-rw question

2004-01-28 Thread David Thrower
I use Toast on a 1400 under OS9.1 with no problems.  I
think you only need to get SCSI Mng. 4.3 to use a
feature or two - I think using a RAM Disk as the disk
buffer is one. I don't think I ever put this on my
'Book - I know I meant to look, but I think I have the
stock OS 9.1 software. I can't look at the machine
right at the moment, but I'm 99% sure of this.

Try it and see if it works, if you have a problem I
can email you any files I might have that could help
you, as it seems MacOS is fairly modular (at least
within one revision or so) - i.e. I use OS 9.2's
Startup Disk Control Panel under OS 9.1 etc.

FWIW, I use both Yamaha 8424 and HP 6200 burners.

Best,
David

PB1400 -> scsi cd-rw question

2004-01-28 Thread Rick McCutcheon
Does anyone here have experience of hooking up a LaCie CR-RW to a
PB1400c/133/OS8.6/64? The LaCie drive needs OS8.6, which is fine, but the
"Toast 4" software that comes with it also "recommends" scsi manager 4.3,
which is not supported on a 1400 (to my knowledge). Is the 4.3 necessary,
or, as it says, just the optimal situation? Alternatively, could I use a
different version of CD burning software (what, I don't know) that would
allow this drive to work "well-enough" with the 1400? I'm aware that any
CD burner on this machine would be painfully slow, but that's not the issue.
