Re: Printer issues with 8.1

2002-08-21 Thread Aly

Okay, I've tried both of these suggestions, and restarted the machine after all
tries, and nothing's worked. I also tried putting the items in both the previous and
then the current system folders extension files (haven't consolidated yet) and
restarting, to no avail (my computer is using some things from the previous folder
and some from the current - messy!). I put them in where all the rest of the
printers that show up in the Chooser are hanging out, and they have the same type
"chooser extension", yet the Chooser is still not seeing them.

Honestly, having never had to re-install any sort of printer on a Mac since about
1984, I'm still stumped. This is one of those things that makes me realize I've huge
gaps in my knowledge, and that I need to learn a bit more patience. I've only been
back with this "newer" Mac a bit over a year, but do love it dearly and forever.

I'll keep trying to figure this out and go back online and download the drivers
again, in case I messed that up somehow... I know it will just take some more
figurin' time. Luckily, no papers due yet... ;-)

What I am wondering is if Apple expected when someone was either buying a system with
8.x new on it or upgraded, they were also getting a better printer and tossing their
trusty old StyleWriters.Whoops! Not me!

(Gosh, maybe I'll make a plea to my dad to "borrow" his Epson 1200! ha!)

Thanks for the help. I'll keep at it and you all will hear a whoop of delight if I
get it figured out.

BTW, loved the disco story. LOL!

The printer CCLs go in the Printer Descriptions folder in the Extensions
folder. Reboot and they should show up in the CHooser.

Printer issues with 8.1

2002-08-20 Thread Aly

Hi, everyone,

I feel dumb as a box of rocks asking this, but I need some assitance. I
recently upgraded to OS 8.1 and now there is no way to choose my printer
(Stylewriter II) in the Chooser. In 7.6.x, printing wasn't a problem. I didn't
realize I had this problem until I tried to print a letter this week! Whoops!

I have gone online and picked up drivers for both the II and the 1500, which is
supposed to work well with the II, but I don't know how to get my Chooser to
recognize them, or where to stash them in my system folder in order for them to
show up in the Chooser. (The files are just sitting on my desktop -- this is
where I get stumped and feel silly).

I appreciate any help very much, as school starts on Thursday and I'd like to
be able to print from my Mac. Thanks a lot!
