Re: USB and the 1400?

2005-12-26 Thread Tom Lee
How much of a "hack" is it for the 2400c? Can you give details or point me
to a description of hardware and software required?

Thanks!
esvee53

I've never had a 2400c, but the cardbus hardware is actually already in the
2400 and 3400. A cardbus card won't physically fit, though, because the cages
aren't keyed right. Rather than modifying the cage (which can be done,
certainly), it's easier to simply modify the card so that it will slide in. All
you need is to cut off a little plastic and you should be good to go. For
details, see http://mywebpages.comcast.net/macdan/3400cardbus.html. This has
worked great in my 3400, and I assume that this would work fine with a 2400 as
well.

The PCMCIA controller in the 1400 doesn't support the CardBus protocol,
and

that is required for any USB card to work. It's possible to hack a 2400,
3400 or Kanga to support CardBus, but not a 1400.

Get a PCMCIA adapter for your type of memory card. For 'Captive'
cameras, ie, the memory's built in and not on a removable card,
you're OOL.

Anyway, yes, you have to use flash, or other memory cards. There is not
and can never be a USB hookup to a 1400, because it's a NuBus machine.

All the best,

USB to PCMCIA card ? USB to SCSI adapter ? I don't see these listed
anymore.

The PCMCIA controller in the 1400 doesn't support the CardBus protocol, and
that is required for any USB card to work. It's possible to hack a 2400,
3400 or Kanga to support CardBus, but not a 1400.

No USB options for the 1400. Period. Best you can do is use a flash
card reader if the camera has a flash memory card.
