Yes.

The other alternatives for OS 8.6 are pretty dire :-(

If you're dealing with an imap account, get Mail Drop http://
ackmo.baylor.edu/~bellc/Mail_Drop/

Text only, but it's fast, light and runs superbly on low end Macs.
It's my mail client on my 540C; I like it a lot.

Never heard of eMailer.

What would be dire about Eudora Lite or Pro?

It sux giant green dripping ones, particularly on imap accounts.

It's a pop mailer that's been horribly kludged to work with imap
servers; it still REALLY REALLY wants to pretend that it's a POP mail
account. Pegasus Mail is the only client on the planet that's worse.

I HATE Eudora! The only folks I have to rescue with e-mail problems
on our server are Eudora users...

Not that I have strong feelings about it ;-)

So noted.

I read up on IMAP and POP

I guess IMAP would or might be good for high pressure, tightly wound,
highly paid, professional world traveler types I like my email
downloaded to me rather than clogging a server somewhere and subject
to god knows what.

Hardly ever had a problem with Eudora Lite. Have used it since 1999.
when I first got online ( yeah I know retarded in the eyes
of the great cognoscenti ) and found the MS product of the time to
be crashing constantly.

So in my simple minded way Eudora serves just fine.

Yes.

Claris [EMAIL PROTECTED] is the only non-SOL (AOL) client I am aware of which
will
successfully work with SOL (AOL).

I use [EMAIL PROTECTED] on all my e-mail accounts, whether SOL (AOL), or other.

The final release was 2.0v3.

A great product.

I'm using it right now ;-)

Yeah, subject to things like 'routine backups' and proper
maintenance, etc. Only a POP user would think of it as 'clogging a
server' with email. That's because most ISPs are cheap bas*ards
trying to get away with the least they can do.

The UA's main e-mail system is imap based, and that's serving some
30-40K accounts. Our mail server handles some 600 accounts, and ALL
our mail resides on a 140G raid. Right now /home is taking up 131G of
that (which is 99% mail, since we don't have shell accounts except
for the admins on this machine), but we're moving to a new mail
server RSN.

Anyone with more than one computer would be well served by using
imap. You don't need to be a high-pressure tightly wound world
traveler type. I'm not all THAT high pressure, and my traveling is
mainly the 3 1/2 miles between work and home.

Don't diss that which you don't know!

Anyone I've ever met who got to use an imap server for a little while
really likes it. It's sort of like Windows versus the mac. Most
people have never used a Mac so they think it's 'just like Windows
only a little different', when in reality it's a world of difference.
None of that 'oh sh*t! my HDD just crashed, there goes all my e-mail!'

I have four computers I use on a routine basis. Only imap lets me
access ALL my e-mail from any of them any time I want.
