It should be...how much does your System folder + Word +IE folders take
up on your current HD?

Recommendation on adequate Compact Flash card size?

2003-11-23 Thread Gary F . Daught
Greetings. Please excuse a PC card newbie his questions! I am looking
for recommendations on an adequate size Compact Flash card if I want to
run my PowerBook 3400c largely off the card. It seems the "sweet spot"
(for me at least) for CF cards right now is 256MB. For example, macMall
has Kingston 256MB at only $40, plus another $7 for the adapter. 512MB
and above still seems too pricey.

I know this subjective and all depends on system and apps I use. And I
know the adage about getting the most you can afford because you can
never have too much. So I guess the real question is: What is the LEAST
I can get by with? I don't exactly know how to estimate this. I'm
running OS 9.1 on my 3400. Currently, my entire hard drive has 785MB
onboard (of that 138MB is being taken up with one online reference
document!). Should I just add-up the size of the individual components
I would want on the card (system and apps), plus virtual memory (how
much?), plus some free space (how much?)? Does 256MB sound adequate
(for say, a basic network capable OS, MS Word, and Explorer)? Thanks!
