Torx screw driver for Wall Street

2004-09-27 Thread Christoph Pistor
Hello,

A friend of mine has a loose power supply plug on his Wall Street Power Book
and asked me for a Torx driver that fits the screws for the case. Does
anybody know the exact size for the driver and where a good place would be
to buy the screwdriver from? I have a set of Torx drivers down to #10, but
that still seems to large.

Thanks,

Christoph

I have a General brand Torx screw driver set (sizes 10, 9, 8, 7, 6) that I bought
from an old Fedco store. It should be available from hardware stores.

AFAIK every torx I've run into on a Powerbook is a Torx 8
Sears has them; mine is a Wiha 267-08 http://tinyurl.com/68fjs I got
from an electronics shop for $4 a few years back. It's got a spinner
cap that makes getting some of those long screws out easily.

Don't go for the driver sets with interchangeable tips, the bit is not
long enough to reach down into some holes on Powerbooks.

A Torx 9 will work (at least it did on my 3400C). Got my set at
Walmart for 7 bucks, those kind that fold out from a centre storage
like a pocket knife. 9 was the smallest but it worked fine, no chance
of stripping the head. 10 will NOT work.

Does anybody know the exact size for the driver and where a good place would
be
to buy the screwdriver from?

All Mac PBs can be serviced using T6, T7, T8 and T9 drivers, although T6
and T8 are the most frequently found, with T8 by far the most frequent.
(Some accessory manufacturers used T10 fasteners ... don't remember which
or what).

Every Sears store sells miniature Torx drivers.

They're about $1.95 each, depending upon which part of the country you're
in.

Actually, the Scots came to Ireland in the reign of Elizabeth I, some
several-odd years before Cromwell. It was referred to as the Scottish
Settlement of Ulster when Elizabeth gave land to Scottish settlers at
the expense of the local inhabitants in order to take control of the
rebellious province. Just for the record, of course.

than the big part of those tips and the tip isn't long enough to reach
the screws.

here in the u.k. i got both the torx sizes i needed for getting inside my
pb160 from halfords ( a motoring spare parts chain ) , one's in a
screwdriver form -the other is for use with a socket set (!) but i treat
it like a stubby screwdriver as i don't need that much effort to undo them .

Re: Torx

2003-02-08 Thread Andrew Kershaw
well it would work for the t-8, seeing as all the t-8's are not recessed,
besides, the torx bitset would always come in handy :)

Yeah, hrm... ;-)

I suppose that depends on the machine. (Are we still talking about the 5x0?)

On my Wallstreet and on my 5300, the screws that retain the case
stiffener are VERY deeply recessed. The screws that hold in the
keyboard on the 5300 are also fairly deeply recessed. And some of
the screws on the case bottom of my Wallstreet are deeply recessed.

A friend of mine had a set of torx bits for his screw driver, but
they couldn't get at some of the screws in my case. In the end, I
ended up buying a handful of Torx drivers from Sears with medium to
REALLY long shafts (ever tried getting inside an old all-in-one
Classic or SE?)

Peace,
Drew

has like t-1 to t-10
(I ended up buying a torx6, 8 sized ones and they aren't so common anymore
from what the hardware fellas tell me)

Those will not work, as the holes the screws are set into are smaller
than the big part of those tips and the tip isn't long enough to reach
the screws.
